Air pressure station

To illustrate the weight of air, an open cube measuring three by three meters is compared with a smaller, solid metal cube weighing 27 kilograms in the weather park. The station explores the question of what constitutes air pressure. It weighs on our shoulders without us being aware of it.

Those interested can climb into the air cube and then lift the 27-kilogram piece of metal. The weight of the metal is exact. However, the 27 kilograms of air in the cube are only a rough indication, as the mass of the air varies due to temperature differences. The comparison is given to the visitor, as the air cube cannot actually be weighed in the weather park. Visitors are therefore expected to make an abstraction: they must be aware of the different materiality and therefore density of air and metal.

The station also provides information about the terms "low-pressure areas" and "high-pressure areas" as well as the function of isobars in weather maps. On the information board, the reader encounters the question: "Why is there pressure on the ears during take-off in an airplane?" And the answer is given.
