PENG

For almost twenty years, Peng has been shaping the urban space of Frankfurt, Offenbach and beyond with his work. Out and about on his bike, he paints facades, electricity boxes and windows with large-scale paintings as well as countless small drawings. His visual language is reduced and direct, yet at the same time has great emotional presence. The so-called "Peng-Männchen" - seemingly simple figures with long noses and strong expressiveness - have long since become part of the everyday cityscape and are increasingly finding new supports and contexts outside the public space.

In the exhibition at radraum, Peng concentrates on his black and white works and develops them further in formal terms. The familiar figures appear more abstract, fragmented and sometimes deliberately dissonant. Lines break up, forms lose their stability; recognizability and irritation stand side by side on an equal footing. The wheel space is almost completely integrated and understood as a coherent installation.

The exhibition is accompanied by sonic, cinematic and physical levels that expand Peng's artistic practice. Filmic works provide insights into his relationship to the city and Offenbach, while participatory formats allow his visual world to be transferred to movement, community and the human body. The public space, the audience and the moment thus become active components of the work. The exhibition sees itself as an ongoing dialog between art, the city and everyday life.
