City of Offenbach provides information on bird flu

31.10.2025

Due to the current spread of avian influenza, also known as bird flu or officially "avian influenza", the veterinary office of the city of Offenbach provides information on important behavior and reporting channels.

Particularly relevant are deaths in waterfowl, owls, birds of prey and domestic poultry. Deaths of pigeons and songbirds are less significant.

Citizens who find dead birds in the city area are asked to contact the Veterinary Office directly on 069 8065 4910 or by e-mail at veterinäramtoffenbachde The location where the bird was found and the type of bird should be reported.

According to the current state of knowledge, bird flu is not contagious for humans. However, gloves should always be worn when picking up dead or live birds and the animals should be well wrapped. Hands should then be thoroughly washed and disinfected.

Keepers of poultry must expect a general ruling in the near future.

Information and leaflets are available via the "Animal disease control" link below (see "Links and downloads": News - Avian influenza).
