Fire officer training

Under the umbrella of the fire department, around 250 experts roll up their sleeves every day to ensure the safety of Offenbach's residents: whether it's extinguishing a burning roof truss, providing life-saving assistance in medical emergencies or warding off other dangers such as flooding - the fire department performs a wide range of tasks for the city's society, where nothing works without our team spirit.

Training objectives

  • Completion of the 24-week basic firefighting course, including basic firefighting and tactical training for operational service with the professional fire department (theory and practice)
  • Specialist training in specialist areas such as fall protection, chainsaw instruction, breathing apparatus training, hazardous materials, radiation protection, etc.
  • Completion of the 1st internship at the fire and rescue station including deployment as a firefighter under supervision on a fire engine
  • Completion of the 2nd internship with deployment as a squad leader under supervision and site-specific training
  • Training to become a paramedic at the Offenbach training rescue station, including practical training units in the hospital and on the ambulance
  • Acquisition of a CE driving license to enable you to drive heavy fire engines
  • Passing the career test at the Hessian State Fire Brigade School in Kassel to obtain the necessary qualifications for the emergency services

What you bring with you

  • At least a secondary school leaving certificate or an educational level recognized as equivalent in conjunction with a successfully completed journeyman's examination or a final examination in a recognized training occupation according to the BBiG or an equivalent qualification or the general higher education entrance qualification or the technical entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
  • You are at least 18 and no more than 35 years old at the start of training
  • Requirements in accordance with Section 7 of the Civil Servant Status Act for appointment as a civil servant
  • Very good health and physical fitness as well as unrestricted fitness for duty
  • Ability to work in a team, sense of responsibility, open-mindedness and enthusiasm
  • Possession of an EU driving license (at least class B)
  • Confident knowledge of written and spoken German (at least level C1 CERF)
  • Impeccable police clearance certificate
  • Current vaccination or immunity against measles

Application

Training usually starts once a year in April (depending on demand).

Your application should include

  • Letter of application
  • Curriculum vitae (with complete educational and professional background)
  • Proof of school leaving certificate
  • If available: Proof of journeyman's certificate or certificate of completion of a recognized apprenticeship according to the BBiG
  • Proof of EU driving license(at least class 5)
  • Proof of existing immunity against measles
  • If available: Proof of additional qualifications
