City of Offenbach

Legal process

The city of Offenbach has been fighting against the expansion of Frankfurt Rhine-Main Airport since 1999

In 1997, the head of Lufthansa, Jürgen Weber, first called for the expansion of the Rhine-Main Airport, which had been in existence since 1936 and had been repeatedly expanded since then. Shortly afterwards, these demands became more concrete and since 1999 the city of Offenbach has been fighting legally against the construction of the northwest runway. This was approved in 2007 and went into operation on October 21, 2011. However, the dispute is still ongoing and the city of Offenbach is still fighting for a relocation of the flight routes and a ban on night flights. We have compiled the most important articles from the years 1999 to 2014 below.
