City Treasurer and Head of Social Affairs Martin Wilhelm visits "Food and Warmth"
16.01.2024 – Winter is showing its particularly frosty side these days. This time is particularly challenging for people in need. This is why the ecumenical initiative regularly offers "Food and Warmth" from November to March. With activities throughout the winter, it offers an important and welcome point of contact in the form of a food bank and lunch in heated rooms.
On Friday, January 12, 2024, City Treasurer and Head of Social Affairs Martin Wilhelm visited the distribution in the Mirjamgemeinde. "For over 30 years, Aktion Essen und Wärme has been an important point of contact for people in need. It not only provides a hot meal, but also a place of community and exchange. It is thanks to the volunteers that this service exists. Without them, the regular appointments could not take place. I would therefore like to thank all the volunteers for their work. This shows once again how togetherness and cohesion work in Offenbach," says Wilhelm.
The ecumenical initiative and the "Food and warmth for the needy" campaign have been in existence since 1993. Originally only intended as "momentary emergency aid", the campaign has developed into a permanent fixture of help for people in need in winter.
From October onwards, 14 parishes take turns inviting people to dine in their heated rooms. The average of around 70 diners pay one euro for a meal ticket, ten tickets cost eight euros. From October to March, the food for one event costs just under 60,000 euros. For this reason, the organizers rely on donations.
