Town hall playground opened
20.11.2023
The conversion of the playground at the town hall into a "playground of children's rights" has been completed. A play cube was built as a place for children to meet and play. A public plenary space for the Children's and Youth Parliament (KJP) was also created. The underlying idea of the children's parliamentary group was to create a place right next to the town hall where children can come into contact with their children's rights in a playful way. They should also be informed that children in the city of Offenbach have their own parliament that advocates for children's interests. In cooperation with the KJP, the Office for Planning and Building implemented the idea in terms of planning and construction. The KJP was involved in all phases from planning to implementation of the playground. The playground has been officially playable since November 22, 2023.
In recent weeks, the dilapidated play equipment and benches as well as the worn fall protection surface had to be removed before the new playground could be constructed. A central play cube with two play levels now forms the focal point of the new playground. This blends in with the design of the inner-city environment and offers various inclusive play opportunities for sensory experience, climbing, sliding and balancing. The renovated playground is also equipped with seating suitable for senior citizens.
Thanks to the use of bound fall protection material, both the play object and the plenum are barrier-free. The sensory cube with its play and climbing incentives can also be used by people with physical disabilities thanks to its diverse components.
On the upper play level, pictograms of selected children's rights are presented on an acrylic glass wall. This wall faces the town hall towards the new table-bench group, the public plenum for the children's and youth parliament. The angled stool benches of the seating group "grow" out of the floor at different, child-friendly seating heights. A small table is placed in the center, on which topics of the KJP can be published. In addition, one side wall of the play cube serves as a drawing wall, which can be used for playing or as a writing board during KJP sessions.
