New citizen trip, 8.10.2022

The influx of newcomers to Offenbach continues unabated and to ensure that new residents feel at home in the city as quickly as possible, Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke invites newcomers to a personal city tour twice a year. On Saturday, October 8, accompanied by city guide Monika Krämer, he was out and about with newcomers as well as a number of long-established residents.

The three-hour tour first took them on foot through the Kulturkarree with the French Reformed Church, Büsingpalais, City Library and the two museums Haus der Stadtgeschichte and Klingspor, before continuing by bus past Wilhelmsplatz with one of the most beautiful weekly markets in the region, first towards the harbor and then towards Kaiserlei. Here, one of the largest infrastructure projects has been implemented in the past four years with the conversion of the Kaiserlei traffic circle, bringing a breath of fresh air to the surrounding areas. The tour led past the German Weather Service and the German Leather Museum to the Weather Park and from Buchhügel to Rumpenheim. On the way, the tour group passed the former Clariant site, which is currently being developed into an innovation campus, and the Bürgel-Ost residential development area. After a short walk, the tour continued via the "An den Eichen" development area to the Bieber district with its ice cream parlor and Kickers Fan Museum before returning to the town hall via the stadium and Leonhard-Eißnert-Park. The tour was peppered with anecdotes and interesting facts - after all, hardly anyone knows the city as well as its mayor. All the passengers described the trip as entertaining and informative and the group photo at the end of the tour shows just how good the atmosphere was.
