Artist Margarete Zahn moves to the twin town of Puteaux

02.10.2023 – A great surprise was the invitation from the French twin town of Puteaux to live and work there for six weeks, reports Margarete Zahn. The two towns have been on friendly terms since 1955 and were recognized as pioneers of twinning by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 1956.

Margarete Zahn

Born in Offenbach in 1954, the painter first studied to become a teacher in Frankfurt am Main and at the University of Bristol in England before enrolling in painting and photography at the Hochschule für Gestaltung. In 1986, she completed her painting studies at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and has since established herself as an artist. She paints "boxes" and "boards", produces object boxes and grid pictures, there are silhouettes and installations and the St. Andrew's crosses on which all her works are based.

Artist residencies have a long tradition and inspire both sides. That is why we are accompanying Margarete Zahn during her time in our French twin town and getting to know Puteaux a little better through her. Yesterday, Sunday, October 1, 2023, she took up residence in one of the oldest mills in the Hauts-de-Seine department. The mill was built in 1648 and was one of the headquarters of Henry IV. Since 1979, the mill has belonged to the town of Puteaux and is used as an artist's residence. Margarete Zahn will live and work there.
