Puteaux (France)

Only the Seine separates Paris in the north-west from Puteaux, a city of 42,000 inhabitants. Offenbach has its oldest partnership with Puteaux, which was officially established in 1955. This connection gave rise to the European twinning ring, which now encompasses a whole series of cities.

As pioneers of twinning, Offenbach and Puteaux were awarded a prize by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 1956.

Puteaux is the cradle of the French automotive industry. Only recently has the economic focus shifted somewhat more towards the service sector. Europe's largest office city "La Defense" with 1500 business addresses and 150,000 employees is largely located in the Puteaux urban area.

A charming old town has been preserved, which German visitors usually find "very French". The town hall, completed in 1934, received an award as France's most beautiful town hall in 1938. Cultural and sporting facilities can be found on an island on the Seine that was once owned by the Rothschild banking family. One of the island's attractions is a rose park where sixty different varieties of roses bloom.

The city's greatest attraction is Paris, with which it is inextricably linked.
