Round Table South

The Round Table South (RTS) aims to help achieve the following goals:

• Improving the living and learning conditions of children and young people in the southern districts of Offenbach
• Close cooperation between all institutions and facilities active in the southern districts of the city
• Direct connection to the prevention work of the city of Offenbach
• Development of preventative services in the areas of violence, drug abuse, juvenile delinquency and xenophobia, among others
• Support for disadvantaged population groups
• Faster response to current problems, conflicts or identified needs
• Activation of self-help potential in the population
• Promoting tolerant interaction between people of different ages and origins in the south of Offenbach

Since 1991, representatives from facilities and institutions such as schools, the police, the public order office, the general social services of the youth welfare office, youth and counselling facilities, the Theresien child and youth welfare center, daycare centers, churches, building companies, associations, charities and interested citizens have been meeting six to seven times a year to jointly observe developments in the south of Offenbach and in Lauterborn in particular and to discuss how living conditions can be improved, especially for children and young people in the district.

Measures are initiated and supported. It is often the little things in everyday life that cause problems and can often be remedied quickly. Sometimes it is the neighbor who illegally places his bulky waste on the street, sometimes the dog owners who do not remove the dog excrement, or road users who do not drive at an appropriate speed through the residential areas.

Problems of children and young people and their families can be better solved and difficulties prevented if all the institutions working in the region work closely together. Social or economic changes in the district, new hotspots or conflicts between different groups are often observed simultaneously by different institutions.

At the round table, these observations are exchanged and strategies for solutions and prevention options are developed. Suggestions and initiatives are developed here, for example for playgrounds or afternoon activities, and joint events are prepared.

For example, a district festival was organized in Lauterborn for the first time in 2009. A district festival promotes the contacts between the institutions and residents that are necessary for effective prevention work.

In addition to current information on events and projects in the district, interested parties can also find contact persons for local associations and information and/or contact partners in matters of prevention. The whole thing takes place in a convivial setting, with music, performances and food from the residents' various countries of origin and homelands, among other things - in this way, these festivals also promote tolerance and the coexistence of different cultures in the district.

Due to the great response and the high integrative and preventative value, there will continue to be district festivals in Lauterborn. In addition to those already mentioned, important partners for the Round Table South are BI Lauterborn, which is committed to upgrading the district and in particular the business area, Stadtwerke Holding Offenbach, which operates the district office and is upgrading residential, green and street areas through coordinated measures as part of the "Better living in Offenbach" project, and Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft Offenbach (GBO), which has organized positive changes, particularly in the business area with the pedestrian zone between R.-Wagner Straße and H.-Wolf-Straße. Video surveillance there helps to prevent vandalism.
