Partnership for Democracy promotes project ideas for better coexistence

07.01.2021 – Good coexistence begins on a small scale, with tolerance and knowledge; sometimes it takes an invitation to see things in a new or different way. With the current call for project funding, the Partnership for Democracy is once again promoting ideas and initiatives that work against exclusion or discrimination and for peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect.

With financial support from the federal and state governments, funding of up to 125,000 euros is available with the approval notice from the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society Tasks as part of the federal "Live Democracy!" program, as is the declaration of intent from the state of Hesse to co-finance up to 12,000 euros.

"I am delighted that this will enable us to continue funding projects from civil society that strengthen democratic attitudes and prevent extremism and radicalization," says Mayor Peter Freier. Frank Weber from the Public Order Office adds: "Measures that promote mutual respect contribute to better coexistence in urban society. We hope to have a preventative effect against hatred and hate speech."

"Together we shape Offenbach" is both a motto and a mission, which is why, for example, district-related projects such as meeting places, spaces and engagement for young people or the cooperation of different groups are supported, as well as work against racism, discrimination and religious extremism. However, projects in daycare centers that serve to educate (early) childhood democracy and participation are also eligible for funding, as are projects that promote inclusion or those that invite children to actively engage with right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism or address gender-sensitive issues. Funding is provided in accordance with the guidelines of the federal "Live Democracy!" program, and the commitment of the funded projects to the free democratic basic order and work that promotes the goals of the Basic Law is mandatory. As a matter of principle, the program is not eligible for funding. Because civil society actors are to be strengthened, community groups and initiatives can only act as cooperation partners and cannot submit funding applications themselves. Further questions regarding the application process and the eligibility of projects for funding can be answered by the coordination and specialist office at AWO Kreisverband Offenbach Land e.V., Ann-Kathrin Schütz, ann-kathrin.schuetzawo-of-landde Tel.: 06074 48288-17.

The Partnership for Democracy Offenbach am Main campaigns for democracy and against extremism. It is organized by the AWO Kreisverband Offenbach Land e.V. on behalf of the City of Offenbach am Main, Municipal Prevention Office (Public Order Office). The Partnership for Democracy Offenbach am Main is supported by the federal program "Demokratie leben! Active against right-wing extremism, violence and misanthropy" by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport.
