09.07.2021

An enlightened and democratic view of humanity, characterized by equal rights for men and women - this is what the project "HeRoes - Against oppression in the name of honour. For equality!" by the DRK district association in Offenbach. On Wednesday, June 30, the project received the Prevention Award from Hesse's Minister of Justice Eva Kühne Hörmann.

Sabine Groß, Head of Social Affairs, congratulated the project on winning first place in the state's 12th Prevention Prize: "With the HeRoes, we have a project in Offenbach that is actively committed to crime prevention and is campaigning for equal rights in our society. As such projects often do not receive enough public recognition, it is of course all the more pleasing that Heroes has now won the Hessian Prevention Award."

The State Prevention Prize has been awarded every two years since 1997 and supports crime prevention projects in Hesse that serve as role models and are already in the implementation stage. A total of 15 projects took part in this year's competition. Justice Minister Eva Kühne Hörmann emphasized the importance of prevention work in the fight against crime and in strengthening personal responsibility. The prize also serves to make such initiatives visible.

The "HeRoes" project was founded in Berlin in 2005 with the aim of eliminating ideological perceptions and thus counteracting extremist tendencies. In Offenbach, the project has been integrated into the DRK Offenbach district association since May 2015.

The aim of the project is for the target groups to develop an enlightened and democratic view of humanity that is characterized by equal rights for men and women. The project aims to mitigate and prevent violent tendencies among young people by educating them about patriarchal family patterns. It is aimed primarily at young men and young people between the ages of 16 and 21 from the Offenbach area.

More information about the project and how to take part can be found on their homepage. "HeRoes" works with role-playing games and subsequent discussion rounds and offers various workshops on topics such as honor violence, homophobia and oppression.
