Dog control day: public order office checks dog walkers
18.10.2024
For the 27th time now, employees of the Offenbach Public Order Office have checked Offenbach residents who were out and about with their dogs. The checks were carried out at the beginning of October in the city center, in Offenbach's parks and on the banks of the Main. 26 four-legged friends were checked, of which only five dogs were not on a lead. A warning fine of 55 euros is payable for failure to comply with the leash requirement.
"The inspection shows that the majority of dog owners are familiar with the regulations and comply with them," says Paul-Gerhard Weiß, head of the public order department. "Nevertheless, such control days are important in order to sensitize dog walkers and to convey to citizens that compliance with applicable regulations is also checked. If this is not the case, appropriate warnings or fines can be expected".
The control days will focus on the removal of dog excrement and the obligation to keep dogs on a lead. The checks are also intended to ensure greater safety. "Our soon to be 5,000 dog owners need to be aware of the rules surrounding dogs, which is why education is important to us. But this also means always having to reckon with checks and regulatory sanctions if you don't comply," emphasizes Frank Weber, Head of the Public Order Office.
But the "Offenbach Dog Control Days" are not the only way to raise awareness of the city's rules. Dog owners receive a flyer on the subject of "All about dogs" when they register their four-legged friend. In addition to the city regulations, such as the obligation to wear a leash or register with the city treasury, the flyer also provides information on the locations of the dog waste bag dispensers and the special requirements during the breeding and settling season. The flyer is available at the city watch office or online.
The Stadtservice also accepts reports of littered areas on 069 840004 545. The Stadtservice uses the "Rex", a dog waste remover with a suction hose on two wheels, to remove the droppings left behind by dogs. The Public Order Office will take reports of dog owners who are not being reasonable on 069 8065-4747.
