Blue light day on Aliceplatz
30.09.2024
Last Saturday, the city of Offenbach held a "Blue Light Day" together with the fire department, the volunteer fire department, the relief and rescue organizations, the public order office, the city police and the state police. Visitors to Aliceplatz were able to experience the areas of work and deployment and the opportunities for volunteering in disaster and civil protection.
Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke was delighted with the well-attended event and emphasized the importance of such a day of action during his visit: "The Blue Light Day was a great opportunity to get to know the people behind the uniforms and the many tasks and fields of activity better. Our fire departments, police and all aid and rescue organizations do special work every day. Their commitment is invaluable for our city and our safety. Many people are unaware that the majority of helpers in these organizations, with the exception of the professional fire department, the city and state police and the public order office, perform an unpaid and purely voluntary service for our society. This commitment to emergency care deserves the recognition and respect of us all."
In addition to the informative content, visitors had the opportunity to take a closer look at the various emergency vehicles and even take a seat in the driver's seat. An important focus of the event was also on prevention work, particularly in fire safety education, with the "Violence - See - Help" campaign by the public order office, as well as the work of the city and state police. The emergency pastoral care service also provided information about its activities and areas of responsibility.
Paul-Gerhard Weiß, head of the public order department, emphasized that prevention is not only an investment in the future, but also an expression of responsibility towards the people in the city: "Preventive measures and advice are the key to the safety of our community. The Blue Light Day has helped to raise awareness of correct action in emergencies and to break down existing prejudices and fears. This information is of great value to our city."
Together, the Lord Mayor and the Head of Public Order thanked those present for their commitment: "The blue light organizations are an indispensable part of our society. We would like to thank the fire departments, the police and the aid and rescue organizations for their valuable work. It is their tireless efforts around the clock that guarantee our citizens protection and help in emergencies. We were very happy to support the Blue Light Day with funds from the city in order to give the youngest members of the public a taste of what it's like to work for these organizations and to recruit new talent in this area at an early stage."
The event was organized in close cooperation between the City of Offenbach's Volunteer Officer, the Offenbach Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Offenbach Professional Fire Brigade, the Public Order Office and the Offenbach City Police, the South-East Hesse Police Headquarters, the Workers' Samaritan Federation, the German Red Cross, the German Life Saving Society, Johanniter Accident Assistance, Malteser Hilfsdienst and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.
