Waste collection campaign in the city center and along the banks of the Main
06.12.2022 – Equipped with grabbing tongs, gloves and bin bags, employees from Hyundai Motor Europe and Hyundai Motor Germany roamed Offenbach in November to clear the environment of litter. In cooperation with the city's volunteer officer, Manuel Dieter, the head of the "Clean Offenbach" Stabsstelle, Christian Broos, and the Offenbach Volunteer Center, the company organized a social day for the employees of the European headquarters and the German sales company in Offenbach. A total of 34 people took part in the campaign over two afternoons.
At the beginning of the event, Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke welcomed the group at the town hall and thanked all participants. "In Offenbach, clubs, schools and volunteers regularly take part in clean-up days. I am delighted that Hyundai is also setting a good example in terms of climate protection and social responsibility in society, while at the same time keeping an eye on Offenbach as a location. Hyundai has been associated with the city of Offenbach for many years and works continuously with the responsible people and organizations on a policy of sustainability within our region. With the clean-up campaign in our city, the company is sending a clear signal for a clean, healthy and litter-free environment. Littered places are not only an aesthetic problem, but also a problem for the environment. Every single clean-up campaign draws attention to the growing waste problem and thus also makes a very concrete contribution to waste prevention and resource conservation. I would like to thank everyone who is actively helping out here," says Schwenke.
The garbage collection campaign started at the town hall and continued through the city center to Wilhelmsplatz. On this short stretch alone, it was mainly cigarette butts, masks, food and plastic packaging that quickly filled the bin bags. After a walk around the weekly market, the tour continued past Isenburg Castle and along the banks of the Main. Here, too, it was mainly small pieces of garbage that found their way into the bin bags with the grabbing tongs. At the end of the tour, the drop-off location was entered in the Offenbacher Mängelmelder app so that the ESO could then collect and dispose of the waste. The campaign came to an end with a snack together at Hafen 2 and the employees released by Hyundai for the Social Day agreed that they had made a joint contribution to a cleaner environment. Hyundai has also expressed its interest in continuing its commitment to the city and the people of Offenbach in the coming year.
