MainCleanUp: 240 liters of garbage collected on the banks of the Main
12.09.2022 – Last Saturday morning, the MainCleanUp campaign took place in Offenbach for the second time this year. Under the motto "#RespectOffenbach! We make the banks of the Main beautiful", 20 volunteers gathered at the Main parking lot to help with the clean-up campaign.
"Twice as many had registered, but it had rained so heavily throughout the morning that some of them preferred to stay at home. But those who were there showed great commitment in making the banks of the Main River beautiful," reports Christian Broos, Head of the "Clean Offenbach" Stabsstelle and organizer of the campaign. As far as the weather was concerned, the collection campaign was under a good star. Just in time for the start at ten o'clock, the continuous rain stopped and only started again after the clean-up had finished.
Municipal utilities support with tongs, gloves and bin bags
Stadtwerke Offenbach supported the campaign by providing tongs, gloves and bin bags and collecting the garbage today, Monday.
A total of 240 liters of waste was collected by the volunteers in the section between the Mainparkplatz in the west and the Mainpark in the east of the banks of the Main. On the Main embankment, there were mainly bottle caps scattered around the benches. There were countless butts along the banks of the Main. However, the helpers were particularly annoyed by the shiny plastic confetti on the grass, which was impossible to pick up completely.
Head of Public Order Paul-Gerhard Weiß therefore appeals to the common sense of those celebrating: "If you want to use the banks of the Main to celebrate, you should leave them as you found them. Litter bins are set up at regular intervals, some of which are also equipped with ashtray tops."
City and municipal utilities support private collection campaigns
Every individual can make a contribution to a clean city. The "Clean Offenbach" Stabsstelle and the "Resources and Waste Advice" department of Stadtwerke Offenbach support private collection campaigns with materials and organize the collection of waste bags. Anyone interested in starting a clean-up campaign themselves can contact the Stabsstelle directly. Either by e-mail to sauberkeitoffenbachde or by telephone on 069 8065-4322.
