Weekly report from September 16 to 22, 2024

The city police had to intervene in a total of 29 disturbances. In most cases, the disturbances were caused by private parties or catering establishments.

Citizens reported only seven helpless people to the police station. These were almost exclusively sick, demented or confused people who needed medical assistance. One helpless passer-by had a record alcohol level of 3.6 per mille and was handed over to an ambulance. A patrol noticed a man wandering around in the harbor district wearing only a surgical shirt and restraint straps. The man was taken by ambulance back to the clinic from which he had wandered off. A person reported as an exhibitionist turned out to be a homeless man with badly damaged clothing. When he refused to cover up at least the bare minimum, he was ordered to leave the premises, which he did not comply with. In the end, he had to spend the night in police custody to enforce the order. After a report of a missing autistic six-year-old girl, the city police joined the manhunt with all their personnel. Fortunately, she was found shortly afterwards by a patrol from the state police.

Employees from the public order office and the traffic police carried out speed checks at 22 measuring points last week. Surprisingly and pleasingly, this resulted in a warning or fine for exceeding the speed limit in only 65 cases.

A warning or fine for parking or other traffic violations in stationary traffic was issued for 1,330 vehicles or their owners.

For the Offenbach registration office, 31 new vehicles were registered for de-stamping. This usually concerns vehicles for which the insurance and/or tax have not been paid. In addition, the city police identified 47 people at the respective residential addresses who had not paid their fines for speeding or running a red light.

Citizens reported relatively few cases of significant traffic disruptions to the city police this week, including blocked fire department access roads, parked-up bends and unauthorized parking spaces for the severely disabled. 18 vehicles had to be towed away.

Several traffic light failures led to considerable traffic disruption this week, so the city police had to regulate traffic.

A patrol encountered a young man sleeping in his vehicle with the engine running. As he was drunk, the patrol seized the vehicle keys to prevent him from continuing his journey. The vehicle owner then slept on without a heater and was given his key back the next morning after a negative alcohol test.

The road safety campaign week in the pedestrian zone began on Sunday. The focus here is on the control of all vehicle traffic and the safety of pedestrians. The enforcement campaign will continue at various times until Wednesday. The colleagues are paying particular attention to delivery traffic, reckless cyclists and e-scooters, as well as many delivery services on the road with fast e-bikes.

After the start of the new school year, the municipal police carried out more checks on parent cabs, which are still very much in evidence. They will continue to do this consistently at the schools concerned, especially elementary school, over the next few weeks.

A landlady asked the municipal police for help when she found a cat in a tenant's evicted apartment. The animal, which had not been looked after for several days, was in good health and was handed over to the animal shelter.

"Person on the tracks" was the message at the S-Bahn station at Marktplatz. Train traffic was stopped immediately and the patrol helped the twelve-year-old to catch her three-year-old brother in the track bed, who had escaped.

A homeless woman acted with little consideration as she rummaged through all the garbage bins in the pedestrian zone for recyclable items and returnable bottles. Everything she roughly pulled out of the bins ended up on the ground next to the bins and was left there. She was ordered to remove the garbage, which she was unable and unwilling to do due to her confused state. The waste disposal companies then helped out with an unscheduled operation.

During the regular inspection of the children's playgrounds, various groups were banned from the site due to misuse. A slide heavily soiled with paint had to be cordoned off until it could be cleaned. The person responsible has not yet been identified.

Several callers reported a column of cell phone and internet contract brokers who were dubiously pressuring residents to sign new contracts. The municipal police were able to identify the advertisers and advise one victim. They also informed the client of the advertising column about the illegal or fraudulent way in which the advertisers were operating.

Domestic violence was reported during a marital dispute. On site, it turned out that although the husband was not aggressive towards his wife, he was very aggressive towards the household. When the police arrived, he had already severely damaged or destroyed most of the furniture with a hammer. The man was ordered to leave the matrimonial home, while the wife now wants to charge him with damage to property.

A patrol became aware of a fight between two people. Both parties involved had also used pepper spray, but did not want to give any information to the patrol and got along very well afterwards. Both were heavily intoxicated and barely able to speak.

For most of Saturday, the municipal police were deployed with the fire department, the THW and the state police to cordon off the fire at the ESO recycling center.

A large number of restaurants were checked during business inspections.

A march with the theme "Christ for all" with around 35 participants went off without a hitch in the city center.

The municipal police carried out a number of residence investigations at the request of public offices and authorities. This primarily involves checks on cohabitation and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to a missing letterbox and/or doorbell.
