Weekly report March 18 to 24, 2024
25.03.2024
Focus on the port and Walter Spiller Bridge
This week, the focus was on patrolling the port area, in particular the Walter Spiller Bridge. The city police had to intervene almost daily. They ordered a number of vehicles off the bridge and filed many reports. The city police will continue to monitor the area in order to take action against illegal parking, littering and noise.
Disturbance of the peace
The municipal police had to intervene a total of 21 times in restaurants, private homes and public squares due to disturbances of the peace and issued several bans.
Helpless persons and taking into care
The city police helped five people who had been reported as helpless. The reason for the helplessness in most cases was excessive alcohol consumption. They had to call an ambulance for one person.
One small child had to be taken into care for reasons of child welfare and handed over to the youth welfare office.
Traffic
The technical traffic service and the traffic police carried out checks at 26 different measuring points using mobile speed measuring devices. This resulted in a warning or fine for exceeding the speed limit in 203 cases.
A warning or fine was issued to 2,606 vehicles or their owners for parking offences or other traffic violations in stationary traffic.
For the Offenbach registration office, 71 new vehicles were registered for de-stamping. This concerns vehicles for which the insurance and/or tax have not been paid. The city police had to identify the driver at the respective residential addresses of the vehicle owners in 42 fine proceedings for running a red light or speeding.
In total, citizens reported over 90 cases of significant traffic disruptions, including blocked fire department access roads and entrances and exits, blocked parking on bends and parking spaces for the severely disabled that were blocked by unauthorized persons. The city police had twelve vehicles towed away and issued many expensive warnings.
This week there were four criminal charges for lack of compulsory insurance and the city police had to collect several security deposits. A security deposit in the form of money or valuables is always levied if the person concerned is not resident in Germany.
One vehicle was taken out of circulation because it had blatant defects on the tires. The patrol prohibited the vehicle from continuing its journey and issued a defect ticket. Another vehicle was stopped because the driver drove through a red light. The driver is facing a heavy fine and the withdrawal of his driver's license.
One person who refused to give his personal details had to go to the police station and was charged with refusal to give personal details.
Security and regulatory police matters
An elderly woman who had been reported missing was found and brought back to her retirement home safe and sound.
A citizen reported a vehicle in which a dog had apparently been left for a long time. When the patrol arrived, the driver of the vehicle joined them. The municipal police explained to him the possible consequences for the welfare of his animal. Especially when the weather improves, a vehicle can heat up very quickly and the heat can be dangerous for animals.
A concerned resident reported the neighbor's open front door. However, the municipal police found no one there and closed the door.
Two people asked for help in enforcing their domestic authority. One person was expelled from a restaurant and one person from a parking garage.
The ticket inspection service on local public transport also asked for help as one person did not want to identify themselves. The city police checked the person and passed on their personal details.
The control center received a report of two loose dogs. The municipal police were able to catch both of them. It turned out that the dogs had run through a hole in the fence onto the street. The owner was informed that he has a duty to secure his property so that animals cannot leave it.
A dangerously protruding piece of metal was reported on the roof of a house. The municipal police inspected it and called the fire department, who removed it.
A young woman had broken the key to her bicycle lock. The city police helped the woman and opened the lock for her.
In the case of a vehicle with the engine running and the lights switched on, the vehicle had to be switched off, the vehicle locked and the key recovered. No one was in the vehicle or in the immediate vicinity.
Weapons
While clearing out an apartment, the clearing company found two firearms. The municipal police checked them professionally and handed them over to the weapons authority.
Residence investigations
The municipal police carried out 57 residence investigations at the request of offices and authorities. This primarily involves checks on cohabitation and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered because, for example, there was no letterbox and/or doorbell.
Lost property
The city police have accepted two lost and found items during the closing times of the lost and found office: a purse and a vehicle license plate. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
