City of Offenbach

Weekly report February 5 to 11, 2024

12.02.2024

Shrove Tuesday

In the sixth calendar week, the main focus was on the carnival events in the city, with the highlight being the parade in Bieber on Saturday. In addition to preventative tasks such as visiting various retailers and restaurants to prevent youth protection, the focus was on traffic. Up to 20 municipal police officers and traffic police officers, who were on voluntary duty on the day, had to secure the parade in Bieber in terms of traffic law. The parade was a complete success for everyone involved. The atmosphere was extremely positive, exuberant and cheerful. Only four vehicles that had parked in the prohibited, closed route of the parade had to be towed away.

Disturbance of the peace

The number of disturbances of the peace has risen significantly compared to previous weeks. The municipal police had to intervene 18 times in restaurants and private homes. The celebrations were not related to carnival.

Traffic

The technical traffic service and the traffic police monitored speed at 27 different measuring points. This resulted in 303 fines for exceeding the speed limit. In addition, 1,768 warnings were issued for parking offences or other traffic violations.

The Offenbach registration office registered 34 new vehicles for de-stamping.

The city police had to investigate the driver on the spot in 26 fine proceedings for running a red light or speeding. Since driver liability applies in moving traffic as opposed to stationary traffic, it must be proven who was driving. If there is no response to a fine notice, the municipal police will move out and investigate the driver on the spot.

This week, citizens reported 43 cases of significant traffic disruptions, such as blocked fire department access roads and entrances and exits, blocked parking spaces on bends and parking spaces for the disabled that were blocked by unauthorized persons. The city police had to have 25 vehicles towed away and a large number of expensive warnings were issued.

Three people were stopped for driving through a red light and could face severe fines and disqualification from driving. One driver was caught talking on the phone while driving. He can also expect a massive fine and points on the central register.

There are still tense traffic situations on the port deck due to parking offenders. For this reason, the entire port area is intensively monitored. One focus is the Walter Spiller Bridge. The city police had to issue several warnings and clear the bridge one evening.

Helpless persons

The number of people reported as helpless has also increased significantly. The city police were called to a total of 14 supposedly helpless people. However, the majority were simply drunk. There was also no apparent connection to Shrove Tuesday.

Together with the worried parents, the municipal police were able to find a toddler who had "run away" from home safe and sound near his parents' home.

The containers with diesel were seized.

Regulatory police matters

During a vehicle check for alleged passenger transport, the city police found 140 liters of diesel in unauthorized containers. In addition, the load was not properly secured. The city police seized the containers with the diesel and demanded a security deposit of several thousand euros.

Due to the danger of falling bricks, an area of sidewalk had to be closed for a short time. Another street was also closed for a short time because parts of the street were flooded due to water ingress.

The municipal police seized the valuables from an unlocked vehicle to protect the owner from loss.

Two other vehicles were taken out of circulation due to oil leaks.

There were again several special use checks in the retail and catering sectors. In four of the businesses checked, the special use permit had expired. In one restaurant, the city police discovered a sharp-edged, protruding piece of wood on the terrace. They had it removed immediately so that no one would be injured.

There was an immense amount of smoke in a garden because someone was burning green waste. The person did not have a permit for this. The municipal police prohibited further burning and had the fire extinguished.

In one case, at the request of the homeowner, the police exercised their domestic authority to protect personal rights and issued an exclusion order.

During an identity check, the municipal police encountered a "truant" and escorted him to school.

There are currently more and more finds of laughing gas cylinders throughout the city. Nitrous oxide is consumed as a substitute for drugs. Consumption is not (yet) a violation of the law in Germany, as nitrous oxide can be freely purchased from retailers.

Residence investigations

The municipal police carried out 51 residence investigations at the request of offices and authorities. This primarily involves checking marital cohabitation and cases in which urgent mail could not be delivered.

Lost property

The city police took in a total of five lost property items, mainly purses, during the closing times of the lost and found office this week. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
