Weekly report from January 20 to 26, 2025
27.01.2025
Disturbance of the peace
In terms of disturbances of the peace, the week was very quiet: there were only nine. Five of these occurred in the catering sector and four in the domestic environment.
Traffic
This week, our traffic monitoring colleagues recorded a total of 186 speeding vehicles at 30 measuring points and initiated appropriate proceedings.
A warning or fine was issued to 4087 vehicles or their owners for parking offences or other traffic violations in stationary traffic. The increased number of traffic violations compared to previous weeks is due to the newly employed and trained colleagues. The risk of being fined for an incorrectly parked vehicle in no-parking zones, residents' parking zones or parking permit zones has therefore increased significantly and will hopefully have an impact on parking morale. 30 vehicles were towed away. The increased number of staff has also given us more scope to deal with serious traffic offences.
This week, the focus was on the monitoring of transit bans. In particular, checks were carried out on "Straße ohne Namen", Senefelder Straße and the tunnel on Bismarckstraße, as well as at three other locations.
In addition, 61 requests from the registration office for uninsured vehicles to be unstamped were recorded.
Security/preventive controls
Citizens reported nine people who were in a helpless situation or extremely conspicuous.
During an ordered towing operation, a patrol noticed that a person was trying to remove the license plates from the car before it was towed away. The reason was quickly explained, as both the license plates and the car were reported stolen and did not belong together.
The reported rioter in the Sana Clinic, who was attacking medical staff there, was quickly under control when the patrol arrived. It was an 85-year-old man with a severe brain disease that led to the behavior.
Two men brought a third man to the police station on Tuesday night and explained that he had damaged a shop window by throwing a bottle at it. The heavily intoxicated man was handed over to the state police along with the witnesses and has to answer for damage to property.
An aggressive beggar in the pedestrian zone refused to give the city police his personal details. He also insulted one of the police officers. His personal details were then established at the city police station. The begging man was ordered to leave the premises, which he finally complied with reluctantly.
Late on Wednesday evening, a twelve-year-old girl turned up seeking help and said she did not know who to turn to. It turned out that the young woman was wanted by the police because she had escaped from psychiatric accommodation, had stayed with a friend for a few days and tended to be aggressive and suicidal. After consultation with her mother, the youth welfare office and the psychiatric service of the clinic, she was taken to a child and adolescent psychiatric clinic.
An alcoholic man known to the city attracted attention several times this week due to his complete helplessness. He regularly reacted very aggressively to attempts to help, lashing out wildly at anyone standing nearby. In one case, he was carrying a large quantity of stolen goods and had to be sobered up in police custody.
The driver of the unlit scooter that the city police stopped on Wednesday evening was also drunk. He had to go to the police station for a blood sample.
At Schultheisweiher, a patrol noticed a pile of old, badly damaged, large-format photos, all of which were pornographic in nature. The pictures were collected without reference to the owner and destroyed for reasons of youth protection.
On Friday morning, a man appeared and described how he had been severely beaten by another man on the market square. He was injured in the face and said that the crime had certainly been recorded on the market square's CCTV system and that the perpetrator had fled the scene in a bus. The crime was confirmed on the basis of the video recordings and the city police were able to complete the description of the person for the manhunt. The victim was taken to the Sana Clinic because of a fractured nasal bone, among other things.
During a traffic check, the city police officers, always mindful of their safety, noticed a prohibited knife in the driver's door of a car. The driver was able to give a credible assurance that he had only borrowed the car and knew nothing about the knife. As the car's MOT sticker was obviously forged and the car was in an unsafe condition, the car was immobilized on the spot and towed away to prevent further danger.
In Bettinastrasse, a patrol became aware of an accident scene where a vehicle had obviously caused massive damage to traffic equipment. They found a car with corresponding damage in a side street and seized it. The state police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
In addition, the city police secured three danger spots, helped twice with the enforcement of house rules in stores and warned three people for feeding pigeons.
In addition to preventive and general patrols, there were a total of 141 operations in the area of emergency response.
events
A meeting was held in the city this week, which went off without a hitch.
