City of Offenbach

Weekly report from May 20 to 26, 2024

27.05.2024

Disturbance of the peace

Whit Monday brought good weather for everyone and 17 disturbances of the peace for the city police. But the party mood was also great on the other days and led to 54 operations due to noise disturbances, some of which were considerable. The main focus was on the Main riverbank parking lot and the Walter Spiller Bridge, which the city police had to clear time and again. Playgrounds were also frequently used as meeting places by young adults or children beyond the hours of use.

Traffic

During this working week, the technical traffic service and the traffic police carried out speed checks at 39 measuring points and initiated 291 proceedings for exceeding the speed limit.

There was one warning each for wrong parking or other traffic violations for 1,278 vehicles or their owners.

The Offenbach registration office registered 29 new vehicles for de-stamping. Citizens reported 45 cases of significant traffic obstructions this week: blocked driveways, parking spaces for the severely disabled, construction sites or temporary stopping restrictions (e.g. for construction work or removals). Only 15 vehicles were towed away because the drivers could not be reached. These included a car blocking the book bus stop and two vehicles to free a stuck truck that was unable to drive forwards or backwards due to incorrect parking.

Due to persistent and justified complaints about noise, litter and rowdy behavior, the city police and state police check the Walter Spiller Bridge several times a day. Appropriate construction elements have already been ordered to prevent vehicles from driving on the footpaths.

The city police had to control a crossing by hand for a long time because a traffic light had broken down.

Helpless persons / In care

The city police rushed to 14 helpless people. Most of them were drunk. Passers-by in the pedestrian zone reported a two-year-old boy crying loudly, who the city police were soon able to hand back to his mother. The two young girls, aged 12 and 13, who were found in the city center at night did not appear helpless at all. A check revealed that both had run away from a youth welfare facility. However, the facility refused to take them back due to their behavior, so the youth welfare office had to contact foster homes. After just 30 minutes, the younger runaway's new placement escalated to such an extent that the foster family refused to foster her. Both ended up in different residential groups temporarily and separately. In total, the city police spent a good six hours organizing, transporting, returning and placing the runaway.

Patrol service and emergency response

This week, the daily patrol service of the city police was again characterized by many very special operations. On Tuesday, an emergency doctor landed with the rescue helicopter in the Hafen/Nordring area and was driven to the scene in Berliner Straße by a patrol with special signals.

Illegal waste dumping unfortunately happens again and again. This week, the city police reported 50 old tires and a mountain of bulky waste, interspersed with food scraps and meat waste, to the ESO.

Some time ago, the Environmental Agency discovered a massive illegal shelter in the landscape conservation area on the banks of the River Main. During an inspection, the suspected builders and users, two anglers, were found camping and barbecuing there. Barbecuing and erecting structures in the protected landscape area on the shore is not permitted and is punishable by severe fines.

A bus driver asked for help because young people were holding up his bus. They had been making fun of the appearance of a female passenger, laughing at her and abusing her. The young lady became so upset that an ambulance had to come. It was not possible to establish the background to the incident as the young people had fled before the patrol arrived.

The usual "animal" incidents were characterized by dogs running loose, families of ducks running in the street, dogs chasing swans and a squirrel in the bedroom of an elderly lady who could no longer find a way out. A swarm of bees in a tree on Georg-Büchner-Weg was finally caught by the fire department.

The "cannabis" products offered for sale in a vending machine proved to be basically saleable, but various violations of consumer protection, the food declaration, the deposit requirement and non-smoker protection were found during the inspection of the vending machine.

In two cases of infestation with the oak processionary moth, the areas were cordoned off.

As is the case every Saturday when the flea market is set up on the banks of the River Main, a number of vehicles were warned this week for stopping there.

This week, the patrols focused in particular on playgrounds, football pitches, Schillerplatz and the Walter Spiller Bridge. During the checks, many violations of the usage regulations or usage times were found.

During a fire in a snack bar in the pedestrian zone on Friday morning, the city police had to cordon off the area extensively to allow the fire department to extinguish the fire. The nearby bookshop was also affected by smoke and extinguishing water.

Meetings and events

No major events have taken place this week. Meetings and information stands regarding the upcoming European elections on June 9 are currently taking place regularly, especially at weekends.

Foot patrol

The city police spent many hours on foot patrol in the pedestrian zone, focusing on the harbor area, the Komm Center and the surrounding schools. Once again, a number of complaints were received.
The cooperation patrol of the city and state police, which operates six hours a day in the city area, is well received and highly visible. A large presence is shown here with foot patrols, but joint checks of restaurants, paths and squares are also part of the program.

Lost property

As usual, the city police took in many items, especially cell phones, payment cards and wallets, during the closing times of the lost and found office this week. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
