Weekly report from May 27 to June 2, 2024

There was another public holiday this week, which may have significantly shortened the working week and increased the leisure value of the week. Despite the really bad spring weather, many people were still drawn outside to the gardens, terraces and local recreation areas. The municipal police were responsible for a total of 33 incidents of disturbances of the night, public holiday or weekend peace.

During this working week, the technical traffic service and the traffic police measured speeds at 17 measuring points and initiated proceedings for exceeding the speed limit in 129 cases.

In each case, 1,652 vehicles or their owners received a warning for parking illegally or other traffic violations.

The Offenbach registration office registered 24 new vehicles for de-stamping. Citizens reported 35 cases of significant traffic obstructions this week, including blocked driveways, parking spaces for the severely disabled, construction sites or temporary stopping bans. 19 vehicles were towed away. Once again, the city police had to have a car towed away that was blocking the book bus stop.

Due to persistent and justified complaints about noise, littering and boorish behavior, the city police (as well as the state police) check the Walter Spiller Bridge several times a day. The construction elements, which will make it impossible to drive on the footpaths of the bridge, have now been ordered and will be installed as soon as they are delivered. The bridge has now been closed to through traffic as a building is currently being demolished on the Nordring side.

As two traffic lights were out of action, the city police had to control the intersections manually for some time in order to keep traffic flowing safely.

There was a dog control day on Monday. The city police checked a total of 54 dogs and their owners. The owners of 13 animals had not paid the dog tax due and there were six breaches of the municipal leash requirement. Fortunately, only one owner was unable to present a poop bag.

One focus this week was again the inspection of playgrounds and their proper use.

In the landscape conservation area on the banks of the Main, following reports from the other side of the Main, campers with tents, camping tables and chairs, a large fire and barbecue were discovered on one occasion, and on another occasion a rather robustly built shelter with seating and sleeping facilities for anglers. Both are strictly forbidden due to bank, water and landscape protection and will each result in expensive fines. Meanwhile, the campers in the motorhome in Hessenring were simply asked to use a proper campsite instead of the city center as a parking space.

In an allotment garden, a patrol stopped the demolition of a garden shed roof made of asbestos-containing Eternit, which was taking place without the required health and safety and disposal regulations. The highly hazardous material was moistened and covered to prevent the harmful asbestos fibers from spreading. Proper disposal will be monitored afterwards.

The city police patrols were deployed together with the state police in a total of 4 fights. A cab driver reported two thieves who had just stolen parcels from a parcel delivery vehicle. The patrol was able to arrest both offenders and hand them over to the regional police. All claims of innocence were dispelled when the partially emptied parcels were found on the escape route. The cooperation with the colleagues from the state police proved to be very intensive and urgently needed this week. On one occasion, the municipal police assisted with the full closure of Waldstrasse following a serious traffic accident in which a tree fell onto the road. The fire department was called out twice to clear up oil spills.

There were many incidents this week involving people carrying knives or other dangerous objects. An unknown person shot a pepper charge into another person's face with a gas gun directly on the market square for completely unknown reasons. The crime and the perpetrator are clearly visible on the video surveillance system on the market square and the perpetrator will certainly be identified. On Wednesday, the OVB inspection service interrupted the identification of a fare dodger when the young man pulled out a knife and then fled without being recognized. The man, who was reported by passers-by with a knife in Auestraße, was not found by the patrols. Two other cases of knife attacks are still under investigation.

The city police again seized several illegal gambling machines during the standard checks of pubs and restaurants.

No major events have taken place this week. Meetings and information stands regarding the upcoming European elections on June 9 are currently taking place regularly, especially at weekends. On the public holiday, the city police accompanied two Corpus Christi processions. The football match between Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein-Fire in the Stadion am Bieberer Berg was very well attended with 13,000 spectators. Apart from a few traffic disruptions, it was a very peaceful family festival overall.

The city police spent many hours on foot patrol in the pedestrian zone, focusing on the harbor area, Komm Center Offenbach and the surrounding schools. Once again, a number of complaints were received.
The cooperation patrol of the city and state police, which is on the road together for six hours a day in the city area, has been well received and is highly visible. A lot of presence is shown here with foot patrols, but joint checks of restaurants, paths and squares are also part of the program.
