City of Offenbach

Weekly report from June 17 to 23, 2024

24.06.2024

Disturbance of the peace

The European Football Championship (EC) is in full swing and people are celebrating in many places when their favorite team wins. The city police hardly ever receive complaints about this, it is tolerated and, if in doubt, people simply join in the celebrations. And that's a good thing, because the Hessian Minister of the Interior has made an exception to the rule that "accompanying phenomena" such as cheering or TV noise are not considered disturbances of the peace during soccer matches.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of complaints outside the European Championships, so that the city police have been called out 44 times this week.

Traffic

The technical traffic service and the traffic police carried out speed checks at 43 measuring points, with 412 vehicles being flashed.

Only 1484 vehicles or their owners received a warning for parking or other traffic violations.

The Offenbach registration office registered 43 new vehicles for de-stamping. Citizens reported 63 significant traffic obstructions (blocked driveways, parking spaces for the disabled, roadworks or temporary bans) to the city police. The city police had 29 vehicles towed away.

Keeping sidewalks clear will be a particular focus in the future. As a rule, a sidewalk should have a width of 150 centimetres so that pedestrians, wheelchair or walking frame users and baby carriages can pass easily and safely. If the width falls below this, for example due to parked vehicles, the city police must issue warnings or have the vehicle towed away.

The water pipe burst in Mathildenstraße required extensive barriers and detour.

Helpless persons

Fortunately, the number of helpless people was low at only 6. The city guard received a call for help from the bathroom of an apartment in an apartment building. The young woman had taken refuge there from her violent partner. The partner is now facing criminal proceedings for domestic violence. In addition, he is now not allowed to enter the shared apartment for 14 days while the woman has time to organize help. Also helpless in a way was an elderly lady who was probably tricked into letting strangers into her home. As expected, she is now missing some of her gold jewelry and the perpetrators are being sought.

Patrol service and emergency response

Together with the hazardous goods department, a large number of personnel were involved in a heavy goods inspection during the morning rush hour on Bieberer Berg on Thursday. There were violations of safety regulations in 90 percent of the heavy goods and hazardous goods transports. For example, a Mercedes Sprinter was overloaded by almost two tons. The load had to be reloaded on site before the van was allowed to drive again.

During a dispute, one person was seriously injured by several stab wounds. Two suspected perpetrators were arrested. The investigation is still ongoing.

A man also displayed aggression after consuming cocaine and cannabis in a pub. The city police took him into temporary custody.

Around the banks of the Main, the patrols had to show some motorhome travelers the way to proper parking spaces along the Main. Camping on the Main riverbank parking lot is prohibited. Barbecuing is also only permitted in the designated area and fishing is only allowed if you have a permit.

The municipal police also dealt with various complaints about dogs and carried out checks.

Meetings and events

The municipal police attended many small events and gatherings. There were no particular disturbances.

Foot patrol

The city police spent many hours on foot patrol in the pedestrian zone, focusing on the harbor area, Komm Center Offenbach and the surrounding schools. Once again, a number of complaints were received.

The cooperation patrol of the city and state police, which is on the road together for six hours a day in the city area, has been well received and is highly visible. A lot of presence is shown here with foot patrols, and joint checks of restaurants, paths and squares are also part of the program.

Lost property

As usual, the city police took in many items, especially cell phones, payment cards and wallets, during the closing times of the lost and found office this week. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
