City of Offenbach

Weekly report from July 7 to 13, 2025

14.07.2025

Disturbance of the peace

The municipal police were called out to 50 incidents due to disturbances of the peace, including six in the commercial and catering sectors. Disturbances of the peace remain very high due to seasonal factors. The recently started summer vacations in Hesse also contribute to this.

Helpless persons

Over the course of the week, the city police organized assistance for eight helpless people. These included a patient in the intensive care unit at Ketteler Hospital, who could only be restrained in his delirium with the help of five people.

Traffic

This week, our traffic monitoring colleagues recorded a total of 268 speeding vehicles at 30 measuring points and initiated appropriate proceedings.

A warning or fine was issued to 3024 vehicles for parking violations or other traffic violations in stationary traffic. In total, the city police recorded 42 uninsured vehicles for unstamping.

Due to a traffic light failure in Waldstraße/Feldstraße, a patrol had to regulate traffic at the junction manually for over an hour. After another failure, the junction was additionally secured by traffic signs; further traffic control was no longer necessary due to the late hour and the resulting reduced traffic.

During construction work on Sprendlinger Landstraße, a construction company left a heavily soiled roadway with earth, stones and sand, which endangered traffic. As they were unable to adequately remove the dirt, the ESO had to clean it with a sweeper.

Instead of a stationary check at Bieberer Berg and Nassen Dreieck, the city police carried out a mobile check of trucks and businesses together with the hazardous goods officer from the public order office. The focus here was on load securing and dangerous goods regulations when transporting hazardous goods such as gas cylinders, radioactive or flammable substances.

As there are repeated complaints about e-charging points being parked up, the city police point out that incorrectly parked cars can be towed away or the owners can receive an expensive warning.

In addition to the warnings issued by the traffic police, the city police were deployed in 21 cases of acute traffic disruption. These included, in particular, parking offenders in disabled parking spaces, in front of fire department access roads, on the weekly market site or in temporary no-stopping zones, for example for construction work, tree-cutting measures or removals. The city police had 29 vehicles towed away.

Security / preventive controls

On Thursday night, a large group of people armed with poles and sticks were reported at Wilhelmsplatz. When a nearby patrol from the city police arrived there, the state police were already on the scene. The situation turned out to be very chaotic. Apparently there was an altercation between two groups of people. Several people had fled. Three people were seriously injured by knife wounds, but received life-saving first aid on the spot. All members of the municipal police are regularly trained in first aid and emergency measures for serious injuries.

An e-scooter rider was helplessly forced to realize that someone had locked his bike to his scooter at the place where he had parked it. The scooter was freed from the wheel using bolt cutters and the bike was seized at the police station. The owner later picked it up and explained that it had been an accident.

A privately organized meeting of Audi drivers in the Hafenallee parking lot was neither registered nor tolerated there. Following a complaint from the parking garage operator, the city police broke up the gathering of 300 Audi vehicles for violating the house rules.

In the area of the wet triangle, a citizen noticed several specimens of the poisonous and highly irritating "giant hogweed". The city police informed the environmental agency, which arranged for the removal.

Concerned passers-by in the pedestrian zone complained about a begging person wrapped in a cloth and armed with an iron bar begging for food and money. The person was actually wearing a mask and was carrying a broomstick. The beggar was ordered to leave.

After several weapons were found in the estate of a family member, a patrol secured the weapons, collected them and handed them over to the weapons authority.

A defective ground hydrant caused a large water fountain in Berliner Straße, which had to be shut off by the water management association. Until then, a patrol secured the large shower.

A concerned citizen reported two hooligans in a playground who were kicking hedgehogs and using them as "soccer balls". The two men, aged 25 and 28, were found and now have to answer for a criminal offense under the Animal Protection Act. The hedgehogs were taken to a veterinary clinic.

A sheepdog escaped from an apartment in a high-rise building into the hallway, terrifying the residents. The large dog, obviously a little helpless himself, started barking and made the residents afraid to go outside. The dog had obviously learned to open doors and is now better secured. There was no danger to the residents as the dog is not aggressive.

In addition, two dog checks, three enforcements of house rules, one exclusion order and three playground checks were carried out. Only two cases of littering were recorded and three disputes were settled. The municipal police were involved in seven cases of criminal offenses and took initial measures until they were handed over to the state police. A playground check was carried out.

A total of 190 operations by the municipal police were registered this week.

Operations and events

An unregistered event went off without a hitch and did not have to be terminated. The organizer was very cooperative and stated that he did not know that he had to register it.

Investigations and lost property

The municipal police carried out a number of residence investigations at the request of public offices and authorities. This primarily involves checks on cohabiting couples and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to a missing letterbox and/or doorbell. The municipal police also took in several lost and found items during the lost and found office's closing times this week. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
