City of Offenbach

Weekly report from July 14 to 20, 2025

21.07.2025

Disturbance of the peace

There were 51 deployments due to disturbances of the peace, 15 of which were in the commercial/restaurant sector. The number of disturbances of the peace therefore remains very high due to seasonal factors.

Helpless persons

The city police only had to organize help for four helpless people this week.

Traffic

Traffic enforcement officers recorded a total of 259 speeding vehicles at 57 measuring points this week and initiated appropriate proceedings.

A warning or fine was issued to 2,307 vehicles for parking illegally or other traffic violations in stationary traffic.

The city police recorded 53 requests from the registration office to de-stamp uninsured vehicles. This number is remarkably constant and high.

Someone reported a vehicle parked in a special lane for public buses. A patrol found the vehicle no longer in the lane, but in the surrounding area. The reason for the unusual parking was probably that the driver was drunk. The driver was standing at a traffic light and had fallen asleep again. When the vehicle then started up uncontrollably, the patrol was only able to wake the driver by knocking loudly and bring him to a halt. The regional police ordered a blood sample to be taken.

A patrol noticed a distinct smell of alcohol in another driver who was driving in the dark without lights. As the driver was unable to follow the patrol's instructions, a blood sample was also required. It was also noticed that the person's residence permit had expired.

Security / preventive controls

The citizens' office suspected that an identity document presented might be a forgery. The authenticity of the damaged ID card was established by a document check carried out by the document verification office of the police headquarters.

Contrary to the statement of a witness that a dog had killed a deer, the dog owner stated that the deer had only been frightened by the dog's behavior and had therefore jumped against a metal gate and died. The investigation by the veterinary office revealed that the deer had bled to death due to a throat bite and the injury to the artery. Criminal proceedings were opened against the dog owner for poaching.

At the main station, a drunken man lay down so close to the track bed that train traffic had to be stopped. After a patrol called to wake him up, the homeless man decided to continue his sleep elsewhere and rail traffic was cleared again after about ten minutes.

A drunk man was harassing customers in a bakery and refused to leave. A patrol helped the owner to enforce his domiciliary rights and led the man out. After the man continued his mock attacks on passers-by in the pedestrian zone, he was ordered to leave the premises, which could also only be enforced with mild coercion.

The dispute between children in a playground turned the parents of the quarrelling parties against each other. During the escalation, one of the fathers pulled out a baton and threatened the parents of the other child. A municipal police officer finally took the baton from him and handed it over to the weapons authority, which is considering initiating criminal proceedings.

Concern for a neighbor and the unusual smell coming from an apartment in Nordring prompted the city police to have the apartment forcibly opened. The occupant's decomposition process was so advanced that there could no longer be any doubt about the man's death.

A man on the market square was obviously less interested in the contents of his champagne bottle than soiling a patrol car. As he was caught pouring the champagne over the vehicle, he is now being fined for his wasteful and grossly disruptive behavior.

An attentive bus driver noticed a man on the market square who was carrying a large knife in his belt. The man was also displaying conspicuously nervous and strange behavior. Two city police patrols were able to identify and control the man. The knife he was actually carrying was a military combat knife/survival knife. He stated that he had kept it from his time in the military. The man had probably consumed alcohol and drugs and showed signs of psychosis, which is why he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. The doctor treating him could not rule out the possibility that the man was a danger to others. The knife with a blade length of almost 20 centimeters was of course confiscated.

The city police secured several danger spots. Of particular note were a displaced traffic island, a damaged swing in a playground and a fallen construction site barrier. A total of six inspections of municipal playgrounds were carried out due to improper use, for example as a place to celebrate a late-night children's birthday party, late-night use outside of regular play times and as a sleeping place for a homeless person. During the regular checks, four restaurants were inspected and three illegal waste deposits were found. The officers were called out twice to search for missing people. On one occasion it was a four-year-old girl who had run away and on another day a senior citizen from a care home went missing. The municipal police were able to find both after a short search.

A total of 163 missions by the municipal police were registered this week.
