Weekly report from September 11 to 17, 2023
18.09.2023
Disturbance of the peace
This week, the city police investigated 60 disturbances of the peace. Of these, a total of 35 were reported on Friday and Saturday nights. This means that disturbances of the peace are still at a very high summer level.
The Walther Spiller Bridge at the harbor, Martin Luther Park and the banks of the Main River continue to be regularly monitored, as there have been considerable disturbances of the peace there time and again.
Traffic
37 new vehicles were registered for de-stamping at the Offenbach registration office.
The city police, and in particular the traffic police, recorded 1884 vehicles this week for parking violations or other administrative offenses.
Our traffic engineering colleagues recorded 271 vehicles exceeding the speed limit at 21 measuring points in the city.
The colleagues had to tow away a total of 23 vehicles that were parked in a way that significantly impeded traffic.
After a water pipe burst, traffic was regulated on site for several hours by the municipal police to ensure the flow of traffic despite the traffic lights being out of action.
Various checks were also carried out at Offenbach schools in the second week of school after the summer vacation. The aim of the total of 8 checks (including Uhlandstraße, Ernst-Reuterstraße, Friedrich-Ebertstraße and Ulmenstraße) was in particular to ensure that pupils were properly secured and to deal with the sometimes chaotic conditions caused by parent cabs directly in front of the schools. There were also speed checks in Ulmenstraße. One road user was not allowed to continue his journey because three children were sitting in the vehicle without any kind of restraint. He had to continue his journey in a cab with appropriate child seats. Speaking of cabs, following a tip-off, the city police checked a cab without the appropriate license and banned it from continuing to operate.
Helpless persons / fights
The city police took care of 12 helpless people, 5 of whom had to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital. One person could only be prevented from committing suicide with considerable effort. The municipal police had to provide first aid to one person: a man appeared at the police station who had seriously injured himself and was suffering from hemophilia. Incidentally, all members of the municipal police and traffic police are trained in first aid and receive regular training. For another reported person, however, all help came too late. After the apartment was forcibly opened, it was discovered that she had already been dead for around 14 days.
City police patrols were called to two fights where they had to intervene and hand over the parties involved to the regional police.
During a reported disturbance, a patrol was approached by a woman bleeding from the nose who was seeking urgent help and protection from her violent partner.
The city police found narcotics on three conspicuously reported persons in Dreieichpark and called in the state police.
Animal welfare
After a dog killed a swan on the banks of the River Main, it now has to undergo a character test. The owner is facing criminal proceedings.
Closures / evictions
Together with the health authority and the building inspectorate, 3 businesses had to be forced to close: The health department found significant hygiene deficiencies at a confectionery and a cosmetics business and significant construction defects at a massage studio. Together with the building inspectorate, the municipal police also evacuated a residential building due to acute construction and fire safety deficiencies, as well as massive overcrowding. Unfortunately, the willingness to cooperate was very limited in all of these cases. Nevertheless, the necessary measures were clearly communicated and ultimately accepted thanks to a friendly but firm approach.
Events / Meetings
On the occasion of the mayoral election on September 17 and the upcoming state election on October 15, a large number of information stands were monitored as part of the patrol. In one case, there were considerable disturbances due to opposing political opinions. The participants were calmed down and separated. They eventually continued their discussion elsewhere.
At the Cultural Festival of Nations on Wilhelmsplatz, the patrols ensured security on and around the square.
Foot patrol
The foot patrol was once again out and about in the pedestrian zone for many hours. Together with the state police, the city police showed their presence in the city during their preventive patrols and were always available to citizens. The patrols also checked many playgrounds and parks, the banks of the Main, the Main riverbank parking lot, the harbour area and the city districts, as well as paying particular attention to the many complaints received from citizens via the complaints hotline or the complaints office (069 8065-2860).
