Weekly report January 22 to 28, 2024
29.01.2024
Disturbance of the peace
The fourth week of the year continued to be relatively quiet in terms of the number of complaints about disturbances. The complaints mainly came from residents living in the vicinity of various restaurants. And, as is so often the case, they were concentrated at the weekend, where the city police had to intervene in 16 of the 18 reported cases.
Traffic
The technical traffic service was deployed at 9 different measuring points with mobile speed measuring devices. This resulted in a fine for exceeding the speed limit in 111 cases.
A warning for parking or other traffic violations was issued to 2,851 vehicles or their owners.
The Offenbach registration office registered 27 new vehicles for de-stamping.
Citizens reported a total of 35 cases of significant traffic disruptions to the city police. These included blocked fire department access roads, entrances and exits, blocked parking on bends and unauthorized parking spaces for the severely disabled. 37 vehicles were towed away and many expensive warnings were issued.
During checks on vehicles used for commercial passenger transport, there were again several cases of unlicensed cab companies.
Two small packages "accidentally" fell out of the window of a car that was to be checked by a patrol shortly before it was stopped, which later turned out to be narcotics.
Two city police officers witnessed a serious accident with injuries and provided first aid before the accident was recorded by the state police and can now provide important information about the course of the accident through their observations.
Helpless persons
This week, the city police helped a total of 14 helpless people by referring them to ambulances or relatives. One person repeatedly sought out the Offenbach city buses to satisfy his need to sleep warm and dry. This was repeatedly interpreted as an emergency by other passengers and led to a total of four deployments of the city police and the rescue service.
Patrol service and regulatory police matters
This week, the municipal police were called to several fights. In one case, this resulted in more work for the state police and the immigration office, as 9 of the 10 people involved in the brawl were in Germany illegally. One reported brawl turned out to be an attempt by two men to accompany their drunken uncle home safely.
A check of 7 young people at the Komm-Center led to the discovery of a prohibited one-handed knife and the arrest of a young man wanted on a warrant.
The municipal police expelled a man from a playground because he had repeatedly approached children and parents in a conspicuous manner. He was unable to provide an explanation for his behavior. In another case, the municipal police had to investigate an alleged case of child abduction and, in consultation with the youth welfare office, made temporary arrangements for contact with the child. A woman and her baby were placed in a women's shelter due to domestic violence.
One focus of the business inspections this week was on special use permits in the pedestrian zone. Here, the cityscape in particular is severely affected when traders do not adhere to the rules on outdoor advertising and seating.
Following a tip-off, the city police inspected a shisha bar where young people were consuming alcohol and tobacco illegally. This will result in a substantial fine for the operator.
In several cases of illegal waste disposal, the patrols identified the first indications of the perpetrators and passed these cases on to the ESO for disposal and the waste department at the public order office for prosecution of the offenses.
On Saturday night, a patrol from the city police was able to track down two burglars at a construction site in the Offenbach area and hand them over to the state police, who were also notified, handcuffed and ready, along with the stolen goods.
Meetings and events
There were no events or meetings worth mentioning in Offenbach this week.
Foot patrol
The city police spent many hours on foot patrol in the pedestrian zone, focusing on the harbor area, Komm Center Offenbach and the surrounding schools. Once again, a number of complaints were received.
The cooperation patrol of the city and state police, which is on the road together for six hours a day in the city area, has been well received and is highly visible. A lot of presence is shown here in the form of foot patrols, but joint checks of restaurants, paths and squares are also part of the program.
Lost property
During the closing times of the lost and found office this week, the city police took in a large number of items, especially cell phones, payment cards and wallets. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
