City of Offenbach

Weekly report from October 28 to November 3, 2024

04.11.2024

Disturbance of the peace

The 44th calendar week of the year was another quiet week for the city police. This time, our colleagues were deployed to 16 disturbances of the peace. Five were caused by restaurants, eleven by private parties.

Helpless persons

Due to the very changeable weather, there are far fewer reports of helpless people in the city. This week, it was in fact almost exclusively sick, demented or confused people who needed medical assistance. The city police assisted in 15 cases. Two people had to be admitted to a psychiatric clinic.

Traffic

Officers from the public order office and the traffic police carried out checks at 20 different locations using mobile speed measuring devices. In 101 cases, this resulted in a warning or fine for exceeding the speed limit.

A warning or fine was issued to 2,451 vehicles for parking illegally or other traffic violations in stationary traffic.

For the Offenbach registration office, 28 new vehicles were registered for de-stamping. This usually concerns vehicles for which the insurance and/or tax have not been paid. In addition, the city police identified 35 drivers at the respective residential addresses who had not paid their fines for speeding or running a red light.

Citizens reported 31 cases of significant traffic disruption caused by one or more vehicles. These included blocked fire department access roads, entrances and exits, blocked parking spaces on bends and parking spaces for the disabled or obstructing the weekly market. The city police had 38 vehicles towed away.

Emergency response

The city police were present at a number of restaurant inspections. There was an indication of illegal gambling in one restaurant and an illegal gambling machine was found and seized. A busy restaurant that was operating without a license had to be closed.

A citizen reported to the city police that someone had tied up a large dog on the market square and then left it there. The dog, a Turkish Kangal, was in poor condition, which is why the city police took it to a veterinary clinic. It later transpired that the listed dog had been taken from the owner's garden plot. Nevertheless, the lady did not get the dog back as she did not have a permit to keep dangerous dogs.

Various youth groups used Halloween evening to illegally set off fireworks and throw eggs at houses in various locations around the city. In two cases, the groups fled when they saw the patrol car and one person was apprehended in each case. The young people were handed over to their parents or guardians due to their age. In one case, a close-range search was unsuccessful.

In several cases, the control of conspicuous drivers led to charges of drunk driving, which were then handed over to the state police.

The municipal police also secured several dangerous areas, assisted six times in enforcing domestic authority, twice in protecting private rights and recorded one case of cruelty to animals. With the help of the fire department, a pigeon was rescued from a net in which it had become entangled.

events

This week, a vigil was secured, several warning strikes by IG Metall were accompanied and the DFB Cup match between OFC and Karlsruhe was supervised. Due to the high number of visitors and, above all, the 2,500 guest fans arriving, this was a considerable challenge for the traffic control forces and it was not possible to prevent a traffic jam at the fan departure.

Investigations

The municipal police carried out a number of residence investigations at the request of offices and authorities. This primarily involves checks on cohabiting couples and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to a missing letterbox and/or doorbell.

Lost property

The city police have accepted several lost and found items during the closing times of the lost and found office. If lost, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde.
