City of Offenbach

Weekly report from October 30 to November 5, 2023

06.11.2023

Disturbance of the peace

This week, the city police were called out in "only" 24 cases to investigate reported disturbances of the peace. The week was very quiet, but there were 16 operations on Saturday and Sunday night alone. The patrol was probably unable to do much about a disturbance in a bar. About 30 minutes after the operation, the parties involved returned to the location. The argument developed into a brawl involving 20 people. The municipal police had to be called out again and were only able to restore calm with a massive deployment of forces and support from the state police.

Traffic

The technical traffic service recorded 236 vehicles exceeding the speed limit at 26 different measuring points.

A warning for parking or other traffic violations was issued to 2,145 vehicles or their owners.

The Offenbach registration office registered 19 new vehicles for de-stamping.

One of the main tasks of the city police is to eliminate traffic disruptions and obstructions. This is often necessary in the case of temporary parking bans for tree cuttings, removals or civil engineering work if road users do not comply with the parking bans. Intervention is also required in cases where fire department access roads are blocked, underground car parks are blocked or vehicles are parked on bends. This week, the municipal police were called out 40 times for such operations and had 31 cars towed away.

Helpless persons

This week, the city police again received 19 reports of helpless people. Most people were able to continue on their way after a check or could no longer be found when the patrol arrived. In one case, the suspicion that someone was in a helpless situation sadly became reality. After there was no indication of the whereabouts despite intensive efforts, the apartment had to be forced open: the missing person had been dead in the apartment for several days.

An elderly gentleman, who was walking through the city with his upper body exposed despite the rain and a chilly 8 degrees, turned out to be a completely disoriented patient at Kettler Hospital and was brought back there by a patrol who noticed him.

Residence investigations

The checks for other offices and local authorities continue to be a major burden on the daily service. In many cases, an address has to be visited several times in order to determine family circumstances, whether individuals are still living there or to investigate speeding violations, for example.

Patrol service and regulatory affairs

The city police had to make several trips to the KOMM-Center, where either young people or groups of drunk people were seeking shelter from the incessant rain and causing a disturbance on several occasions. The center, the multi-storey parking lot and the covered areas in front of it were all affected.

A missing manhole cover in Birkenlohrstraße was very dangerous for cars, but especially for cyclists. The cover was eventually found in a neighboring garden plot and replaced.

Meetings and events

The city police once again attended two registered gatherings this week.
At the OFC match against Mainz 05 (1:3), the 5,078 fans of both teams in attendance did not cause any significant traffic disruption, meaning that the operation went very smoothly.

School route safety/parent cabs

This week, the city police focused on the Mauerfeld School and the Humboldt School with regard to school route safety and controlling disruptions caused by parent cabs.

Lost property

During the closing times of the lost and found office, the city police took in many items, especially cell phones, payment cards and wallets, as well as an e-bike. In the event of loss, please contact fundbuerooffenbachde

Foot patrol

The city police spent many hours on foot patrol in the pedestrian zone, focusing on the harbor area, Komm Center Offenbach and the surrounding schools. Once again, a number of complaints were received.
