City of Offenbach

Weekly report from February 17 to 23, 2025

24.02.2025

Disturbance of the peace

In total, the city police intervened 14 times this week in cases of disturbances of the peace. One of these occurred in the catering sector and 13 in the domestic environment.

Helpless persons

This week, the city police were called to twelve helpless people. In one case, the utmost urgency was required: On Monday, a man was about to cut his carotid artery with a broken beer bottle. He was taken to a psychiatric clinic with minor cuts. The man had already been admitted there in the past. The very next day, after his release, he attracted attention again. With a blood alcohol level of 2.11, he threatened and insulted passers-by, so that this time he was taken into police custody to sober up. The man was also conspicuous again on Friday and spent another night in police custody. This time he also attacked passers-by and tried to kick and spit at them - this time with 2.47 per mille alcohol in his blood.

Traffic

The employees of the public order office and the traffic police checked the speed at 24 different locations. There were 109 violations that resulted in warnings or fines. 3494 vehicles parked incorrectly or violated other traffic regulations this week. The number of warnings remains high.

This week, 23 new vehicles were registered for de-stamping at the Offenbach registration office. This usually concerns vehicles whose insurance or tax has not been paid.

Citizens reported almost 28 cases of significant traffic disruptions to the city police this week, such as blocked fire department access roads, entrances and exits, parked-up bends and parking spaces for the severely disabled. 26 vehicles were towed away.

Emergency response

A suspected car race in Rhönstraße turned out to be a call for help from an UBER driver. The man claimed to have deliberately provoked a stop - unnoticed by his passengers. The reason: the passengers were behaving aggressively towards him and were handling drugs. As the patrol also detected the smell of cannabis, the city police officers called in a second patrol. The passengers are already known for drug offenses and unauthorized possession of weapons. When the city police searched the passengers, the officers found a packet of cannabis and a bag of cocaine. In addition, the officers discovered a packet of cigarettes containing another white substance in the vehicle, which presumably also belonged to one of the passengers.

Another driver also attracted attention this week due to his dangerous driving. He overtook several times in narrow places, drove up close and overtook a patrol car across the sidewalk with his engine roaring. Despite blue lights and stop signals, the driver did not stop. The patrol was only able to stop the vehicle with a targeted overtaking and lateral maneuver. While the driver apparently did not understand the patrol's accusations, his passenger reacted aggressively and also made fun of the control. The fines that the driver will now have to pay are likely to be less amusing.

An e-scooter driver who overtook a patrol at around 40 kilometers per hour and also disregarded a red light also caused astonishment. The man admitted that he had manipulated the electronics on his scooter to make it go faster. Now he is probably on foot for the time being - his scooter ended up at the police station for a technical inspection.

At this point, the city police would like to point out that the blue insurance stickers for e-scooters and scooters will lose their validity on March 1, 2025. They must be replaced by green stickers. Anyone driving with an old sticker is committing an offense and driving without insurance cover.

After a traffic accident in the Main parking lot, the patrol suspected that the driver might be under the influence of intoxicating substances. An alcohol test was negative, but the police discovered a bottle of nitrous oxide in the vehicle, which the driver had presumably consumed shortly before the accident.

On Friday night, a man appeared at the police station and stated that he had been attacked in a bar. In the bar itself, it turned out that the man had previously caused trouble himself. The man had urinated in the bar, behaved aggressively towards guests and staff and had been expelled from the bar as a result. When the police asked him for his identity papers, he tried to look for them in his car. Meanwhile, the man's sister and father emerged. The alleged troublemaker sat in the driver's seat of his car, started the engine and repeatedly ignored the city police's request to turn it off. The patrol had to use force to get him out of the vehicle and restrain him. The family members present initially interfered with the measure, but calmed down and explained that the man was suffering from schizophrenia and was in an exceptional mental state. As the man still did not calm down, he was admitted to a psychiatric ward and presented to a specialist.

This week, a man was found in a condemned house where he was staying illegally. A check revealed that there was a warrant for his arrest for an outstanding fine. As he was unable to pay the fine, he must now serve a substitute custodial sentence.

This week, the city police also secured two hazardous areas and an oil slick, assisted four times in enforcing domestic authority, issued one exclusion order and assisted in protecting private rights in eight cases. In total, the municipal police recorded 142 deployments this week.

events

There were three gatherings in the city this week. At one of them, there was a spontaneous counter-demonstration whose participants attempted to disrupt the registered assembly. The city police also monitored 13 information stands in connection with the Bundestag election campaign and other organizations.

Residence investigations

The municipal police carried out numerous residence investigations at the request of public offices and authorities. This primarily involves checking marital cohabitation and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to non-existent letterboxes or doorbells.
