Weekly report from December 23 to 29, 2024

The last week of 2024 was, of course, mainly characterized by the Christmas holidays and was, by and large, really peaceful. The city police only had to respond to six disturbances.

Extremely few helpless people are currently being reported. This week, the municipal police were only called out to five people who were in a helpless situation. In addition, the municipal police helped to accommodate three mentally ill people.

One homeless person was helped at short notice by the municipal homeless shelter. In this context, the municipal police refer to the Offenbacher Tafel cold bus, which has been operating in the city since 6 December. The bus regularly stops at the Stadtmitte, Mainvorgelände and Unterführung am Kaiserlei stations to provide those in need with warm drinks, protection from hypothermia and human attention between 11 pm and 5 am. The enforcement officers from the public order office and the traffic police officers were almost all on vacation and spent the holidays with their families, which is why there were no speeding tickets this week.

There was a warning or a fine for parking or other traffic violations in stationary traffic for 556 vehicles. The difference in the number of violations from week to week is not due to the different parking behavior of citizens, but solely to the availability of traffic police officers. The more of them are on vacation or ill, the fewer parking offenders can be caught.

The post office and the citizens' office were also only on duty to a limited extent. As a result, there was no unstamping and no driver investigations this week.

There were one or two domestic disputes over the holidays. Whether this was due to the unpleasant gifts, too much time spent together or increased alcohol consumption is impossible to say, but the reasons are probably somewhere in between.

After the holidays, many people used the time between the years to go shopping. However, there were repeated cases of non-payment and the city police were deployed to establish the identity of three shoplifters. A fugitive thief who had reached into the store till was caught during the manhunt along with his loot of almost 700 euros.

The city police also secured several dangerous areas and assisted twice in enforcing house rules in stores.

The Christmas market in Offenbach's pedestrian zone continued to be patrolled by police and city police. The market ran completely undisturbed and peacefully until its end on December 29.

The municipal police carried out a number of residence investigations at the request of public offices and authorities. This primarily involves checks on cohabitation and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to a missing letterbox and/or doorbell.
