On duty for Offenbach all year round: Mayor thanks city police employees for their daily service

Twinkling lights, crowded streets and people running their last errands before the holidays. While many Offenbach residents are in a festive mood, the city police are ensuring safety and order at the Christmas market, in residential areas and at events with a targeted presence, traffic monitoring and preventive measures.

In the week before Christmas, Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke and Paul-Gerhard Weiß, head of the public order department, visited the city police officers to thank them for their daily work: "For many people, they are the first port of call when it comes to safety, order and support. They intervene before small problems turn into big ones. Especially during the Christmas season, which is not always a peaceful time, conflicts arise time and again - be it in public places, in the neighborhood or in the private sphere. Your presence and commitment are often crucial in defusing such situations and protecting people."

The visit by the Lord Mayor and the City Council was deliberately scheduled for 6 p.m. so that both the day shift and the night shift could be present. While the day shift is on duty from 6 am to 6 pm, the night shift starts at 6 pm and ends at 6 am the next morning. During his visit, the Lord Mayor and the City Council presented the employees with sweet and savory snacks as a small gift.

"Their job is far more than just enforcing rules. They convey trust, create security and are a reliable point of contact for people in this city in their everyday lives. As your work usually requires direct contact with the citizens of the city, a great deal of tact is just as important as assertiveness," emphasized the mayor. He also highlighted the successful cooperation between the city police and the state police: "Our joint patrol is a real model for success that has now been adopted by many other municipalities."

City Councillor Paul-Gerhard Weiß also had words of praise for the city police team: "The work of the city police is highly valued and recognized by the city. Their work is important and indispensable - and not just on special occasions like Christmas. Around the clock, seven days a week, you ensure that Offenbach is a little safer. It was an important step that we were able to create additional jobs in recent years. This makes your work more effective and takes the pressure off the team."

At the end of his visit to the city police station, the mayor once again emphasized the importance of the work of the emergency services: "It is above all the mixture of presence and communication that makes up the work of the city police. Their work is indispensable for coexistence in Offenbach. It actively contributes to the quality of life in Offenbach. My grandfather was also a police officer, which is why I have a special connection to this profession and know how demanding your daily work is." He concluded by wishing the employees: "I hope that you will always return from your missions healthy and accident-free, even during the Christmas period, and that you will have time for your families after work. Your work is varied, demanding and indispensable - and it deserves great respect."
