City police operations in August

10.09.2025 – In August, the municipal police were again called out on numerous missions: The city police checked a man who was carrying a large sword on his back. A man obstructed the onward journey of a bus with large amounts of luggage, which led to an argument with the bus driver. At the town hall, a citizen caused the municipal police to be called out because he was carrying an electric scooter.

Disturbances

In August, citizens reported an average of 43 disturbances of the peace per week in restaurants, private homes and public places. The warm temperatures led to more disturbances.

Helpless people

The municipal police are regularly called out to people who appear helpless. In August, there were between six and nine reports of helpless people. Most of these were sick, drunk or confused people who needed medical assistance. However, the majority were not helpless, but drunk.

Traffic

The traffic police carried out speed checks at up to 42 locations per week and initiated between 194 and 372 proceedings for exceeding the speed limit.

There were a particularly high number of warnings for parking and other traffic violations in the second week of August, with 1,957.

A total of 154 vehicles were registered for de-stamping at the Offenbach registration office in August.

Patrol service and hazard prevention

In the first week of August, the city police were called upon several times: The sister of a 42-year-old woman phoned the municipal police because she had not heard from her sister since a lecture. As the woman usually called several times a day, this was very unusual behavior. The caller stated that she lived in Austria and therefore asked the city police to check on her sister, who had recently received a bone marrow donation and had other health problems. The city police found the 42-year-old dead in her apartment. The emergency doctor who was called assumed that the death was natural.

Two men appeared at the city police station. One of them complained of chest pains and stated that he had been persuaded by his friend to take methamphetamine. Due to the health complaints, the city police called an ambulance. The city police also informed the state police, who recorded the incident as a narcotics offense.

A witness reported to the city police that a dog had been in a car for several days. On site, a patrol found the dog in the trunk of a car. The trunk was visibly soiled with dog excrement and there was no sign of sufficient drinking water or animal food. Several people confirmed to the emergency services that the dog had been in the vehicle for several days. A search for the owner did not reveal any dogs in the immediate vicinity. After consulting with the veterinary office, the emergency services decided to call in a towing service to free the dog. The fire department, which was also called in, took the animal to the animal shelter.

During a traffic check, a patrol discovered that the driver of a people carrier was wearing a seatbelt. The passengers gave contradictory information about their destination. It was suspected that the eight passengers were staying illegally. The city police took the people to the city police station and checked them. As the initial suspicion was confirmed, members of the city police took the people to the state police station.

In the second week of August, a man obstructed the onward journey of a bus with large amounts of luggage. While the man was loading the luggage onto the bus, the bus driver took the opportunity to unload the luggage and close the bus doors. The man then hit the vehicle and insulted the driver. A patrol observed the situation. They confronted the man, but he did not show any understanding and also insulted the police officers and refused to show his ID. When he raised his hand threateningly, the city police handcuffed the man. The city police finally obtained the man's personal details at the city police station. After the police measures were completed, the man was ordered to leave the premises.

The city police pursued an e-scooter driver who was clearly exceeding the speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour. When the vehicle was checked, it turned out that the vehicle's display showed American miles per hour, which corresponds to a speed of around 33 kilometers per hour. The vehicle is not permitted on German roads. The patrol seized the scooter. The driver faces criminal charges.

A major fire in Hanauer Straße also kept the city police on their toes for several hours. The city police closed the road to allow the fire department to work undisturbed. After five hours in the blazing summer heat, the fire was extinguished and the cordoning off measures were completed.

As a customer in a pub had already collapsed twice, the landlord called an ambulance. However, the guest refused to be examined by the emergency services, which is why the municipal police had to be called in, as the guest's life was in danger. On the way to the hospital, the rescue coordination center again requested the help of the city police because the man tried to get out of the ambulance during the journey. At the hospital, the man also refused to leave the ambulance. Finally, the emergency services managed to persuade the man to allow himself to be examined. A doctor diagnosed acute blood poisoning and transferred him to the intensive care unit.

In the third week of August, a bank employee asked the city police for help. The woman had been threatened by a customer after telling her that her bank card would have to be confiscated due to an account seizure. The patrol met the customer near the bank and informed her that she was banned from the branch with immediate effect.

A member of the public reported a family walking near the market square with a puppy that was probably far too young. The dog also seemed very young to the patrol, and the owner became increasingly entangled in contradictions. An employee of the veterinary office confirmed the basic suspicion and estimated the age of the animal to be no more than six weeks. The animal was taken into official custody and further investigations are pending.

An argument broke out between a bus driver and several passengers. A bus driver asked the passengers to turn off loud music on the bus. This led to mutual insults and the passengers did not want to leave the bus. A patrol was able to calm the situation on the spot. One of the people's residence status was unclear, which is why the city police handed the person over to the state police.

During an operation, a patrol discovered a suspected bed camp in a building. After consulting with the Office for Planning and Building, it turned out that the location was already known. Together with the employees of the department, they entered the building and found many people there. As the whereabouts of several people were unclear, the state police were called in to assist. In the case of one person, the suspicion of illegal residence was confirmed, which is why he was taken to the state police station.

In the last week of August, a man asked a patrol to light his cigarette. As the man then left with his lit cigarette, a female member of the municipal police noticed a very long object on the man's back that resembled a sword. The patrol led the man to the city police station. The suspicious object was actually a blunted steel sword about 1.50 meters long in a carrying device. The man stated that he wanted to take part in exhibition fights in Frankfurt parks with the sword. The city police explained to the man that the transportation of weapons of this type outside of locked containers is not permitted. The employees of the city police seized the sword and handed it over to the weapons authority. The man was reported to the police.

At the town hall, a citizen caused the municipal police to be called out. The man was carrying an electric scooter. When the doorman explained to the man that the scooter had to be parked outside the building, he reacted angrily. The patrol explained the legal basis to the man and showed him the way out.

Investigation of whereabouts

The municipal police also had to carry out various residence investigations in August. These primarily involved checks on cohabiting couples and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to missing letterboxes or doorbells.
