City police operations in July

15.08.2025 – In July, the municipal police were again called out on numerous missions: The city police checked a man who was carrying a large knife on his belt. There was a violent altercation on Wilhelmsplatz in which several people were seriously injured. A shepherd dog that had learned to open doors on its own caused a commotion in a residential building.

Disturbance of the peace

In July, citizens reported an average of 50 disturbances of the peace per week in restaurants, private homes and public places. The summer vacations and warm temperatures led to more disturbances.

Helpless persons

The city police are regularly called out to people who appear helpless. In July, there were between four and 18 reports of helpless people. The majority of these were sick, drunk or confused people who needed medical assistance. However, the majority were not helpless, but drunk.

Traffic

The traffic police carried out speed checks at up to 57 locations per week and initiated between 121 and 286 proceedings for exceeding the speed limit.

There were a particularly high number of warnings for parking offences and other traffic violations in the second week of July, with 3,024. There were between 21 and 32 serious traffic obstructions per week. These include, for example, blocked driveways, parking spaces for the severely disabled and temporary stopping bans.

A total of 249 vehicles were registered for deregistration at the Offenbach registration office in July. Between 14 and 29 vehicles were towed away in July, all others received an expensive warning.

Patrol service and emergency response

The city police were called out several times in the first week of July: An extensive operation took place when a man with a naked upper body was reported. The man was behaving aggressively, hitting cars and putting up considerable resistance to the emergency services and ultimately had to be restrained by police and municipal police officers. On suspicion of drug abuse and acute health problems with a high temperature, the man was taken to a clinic where he received medical treatment.

After a witness reported smoking children in a playground to the city police, a patrol encountered several children on the scene together with an e-cigarette. The municipal police escorted the children home. There, the officers encountered the mother and a very neglected apartment. The municipal police made a report to the youth welfare office about the suspected risk to the children's welfare, with an additional request for an urgent assessment of the living situation.

In the second week of July, an altercation took place on Wilhelmsplatz. A group of people armed with poles and sticks came into conflict. Several people fled. Three people suffered serious knife wounds but received life-saving first aid on the spot. All members of the municipal police are regularly trained in first aid and emergency measures for serious injuries.

There were also animal missions this month: In addition to the usual dog checks, two rioters were reported at a playground, where they were kicking hedgehogs and using them as "soccer balls", among other things. The two men, aged 25 and 28, now have to answer for a criminal offense under the Animal Welfare Act. The hedgehogs were taken to a veterinary clinic.

A German shepherd, which had learned to open doors on its own, frightened the residents of the apartment building because it was in the hallway and barked. However, it did not pose any danger as it was not aggressive.

In the third week of July, an argument broke out between two families. An argument between children in a playground also turned the parents of the quarrellers against each other. During the escalation, one of the fathers pulled out a baton and threatened the parents of the other child. A municipal police officer finally took the baton from the man and handed it over to the weapons authority, which is considering initiating criminal proceedings.

An attentive bus driver noticed a man carrying a large knife on his belt. The man was also behaving conspicuously. Two patrols from the city police located the man and then checked him. The knife he was carrying was a military combat knife/survival knife. The man stated that he had kept the weapon from his time in the military. The man had probably consumed alcohol and drugs and showed signs of psychosis, which is why he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. The doctor treating him could not rule out the possibility that the man was a danger to others. The city police confiscated the knife with a blade length of almost 20 centimetres.

In the penultimate week of July, the city police were notified of six filled canisters of basic cleaner, each containing 10 liters, which were presumably disposed of illegally. The municipal police called in the fire department for professional disposal.

A local resident informed the city police about improperly erected scaffolding. It was blocking the entire sidewalk and was neither secured nor properly cordoned off. The emergency services suspected an illegal building site and tried to contact the company responsible by telephone. During an interview with the neighbors, the city police located the owner of the building. He confirmed that he had hired the company. The emergency services instructed the construction workers to dismantle the scaffolding and stop the work. On suspicion of illegal work, the emergency services investigated the workers' suspected accommodation. The city police informed the responsible building inspectorate of the city of Offenbach and the financial control of illegal employment of the main customs office in Hanau.

In the last week of July, the city police stopped a driver who attracted attention due to his unsafe driving style. At a junction, the driver disregarded a traffic sign and drove into the oncoming lane. The patrol then stopped the vehicle. The man stated that he was not familiar with the area. The man took a voluntary alcohol test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.07 per mille. However, as the man's pupils were dilated and he made a nervous impression overall, the officers offered a voluntary urine test. The man replied that this "would not go well for him" and then admitted that he had consumed cocaine about an hour earlier. When the municipal police officers asked the man if he had any narcotics on him, the man voluntarily handed over the cocaine and amphetamine he was carrying. A search of the man did not lead to any further finds. The municipal police then took the man to the police station for further measures.

Residence investigations

The municipal police also had to carry out various residence investigations in July. This primarily involved checking cohabiting couples and cases in which urgent official mail could not be delivered due to missing letterboxes or doorbells.
