Exercise trail in the Grünring has been completed

30.03.2023 – The new exercise trail in Offenbach's Grünring between Weidigweg and Senefelderstraße has been completed. After a relatively short construction period and a winter break, the construction fences were largely dismantled and the course was opened for use.

The new sports facility is aimed at both beginners and advanced users and replaces the previous exercise trail on Rosenhöhe, which had to be dismantled for safety reasons. "With the new exercise trail for people from the age of 14 to old age, we are not only creating a replacement for the previous facility, but also placing it in an environment that is easily accessible for people," says Paul-Gerhard Weiß, Head of Planning and Construction: "Two footpaths and cycle paths between the Lauterborn, Rosenhöhe and Carl-Ulrich-Siedlung districts intersect at the Grünring site."

The course of weatherproof sports equipment includes equipment for strength and flexibility (calisthenics) as well as for coordination, endurance and relaxation. Signs with instructions help visitors to try out the various exercises. Seating is available for breaks or longer stays. If you want, you can come by bike and find space to park on the bike hangers. When equipping the approximately 550 square meter area, those responsible at the Office for Planning and Building used path surfaces that enable accessibility with a wheelchair or walking aid, for example. The fall protection slabs used in sections are not only for safety, but also for free sports exercises on the ground. The equipment is made of robust steel and is therefore designed for long-term use.

The area in the green ring, which has been created between Bieberer Straße and Sprendlinger Landstraße since 1998, is surrounded by flowering shrubs and climate-adapted trees to provide shade. In addition, an insect-friendly flower meadow has already been sown and 1,500 flower bulbs planted to increase biodiversity. The future flower meadow will probably remain cordoned off with a construction fence until the seeds have emerged to protect them until the summer.

Even during the construction work, the construction of the facility was actively inspected. Following the rectification of minor defects, the facility is now open for use by sports enthusiasts and interested members of the public, even though the meadow seed in the directly adjacent strip has not yet emerged.

The cost of the new exercise trail is 208,000 euros. 73 percent of the costs are being financed by the "Growth and Sustainable Renewal" urban development program (formerly "Future Urban Green") from the federal government and the state of Hesse.
