At the opening of the sports festival last Saturday, the chairman of the Offenbach sports district and co-organizer of the sports festival was awarded the Silver Sports Badge of Honour. To the delight of everyone involved, the surprise was a success: Jörg Wagner had helped organize the opening ceremony, but had not actually been told in advance. Mayor Schwenke emphasized in personal words to Jörg Wagner why the award was absolutely deserved: "Your commitment is an almost round-the-clock honorary office, at best your employer only sees you once outside of your honorary office. And, something that makes you stand out in particular: if someone wants to arrange something with you, they don't have to spend three hours talking to you. If they want to make an agreement, they do so quickly, purposefully and bindingly - and always in a pleasant and human way. In other words, highly professional - and yet an honorary position. For this, dear Jörg, I would like to thank you personally!"
Wagner's sporting activities began at the age of six in children's and youth soccer - first in Darmstadt, then in Frankfurt and finally in various clubs in the Offenbach district. He played soccer actively until 2009, most recently in Obertshausen. He then worked as a coach, most recently at TuS Froschhausen in his home town. He was also active in the Hessian Football Association - as district football manager, as chairman of the district sports court, as a consultant for the social foundation of the Hessian Football Association, as a member of the commission for social responsibility and as a trained soccer conflict manager. Since 2014, he has been involved in the city's indoor soccer championships, now as an honorary tournament director. He also volunteers as an authorized examiner at the German Sports Badge Day in Offenbach. Jörg Wagner has also been Chairman of the Offenbach City and District Sports Association for three years. As chairman of the sports district, he is involved in all funding applications that affect the Offenbach sports district, for example with the sports commission, the state sports association or the state of Hesse. Among other things, he supported the negotiations with the state of Hesse for the recognition of the weight room in the harbor school for the 1st Samurai Judo Club, he was involved in the further development of the sports facility development plan and in the negotiations on the future of the swimming pool.
Lord Mayor Dr. Felix SchwenkeSport in the city and district of Offenbach is glad that you are committed to it. And I can personally add: I am too. That's why I'm delighted that, following a unanimous vote by the sports commission, I can award you the Silver Sports Badge of Honor of the City of Offenbach today!
