Design competition of the neighborhood architects
In October, the inner city district architects invited entries for a design competition, and a jury selected the most convincing submissions in November. They were looking for advertising installations that were discreet and appealing or even surprisingly designed, with an individual character for the goods and services on offer and adapted to the cityscape and architecture.
Reasons of the jury:
2nd prize
The Greek patisserie "Caramela" won over the jury of the Offenbach 2024 advertising design competition:
- The advertising conveys what the store offers in an inviting, clear and concise way.
- In accordance with the advertising system statutes, two advertising elements were used, in this case as stickers on the shop windows.
(The existing structural advertising space on the façade can only be used to a limited extent due to the awning and canopy, so that the exception rule of the advertising installation statute to allow shop window stickers in such cases comes into play here). - The size of the lettering is in proportion to the size of the shop window, creates the desired effect in the public space and takes into account the limitations set out in the advertising installation regulations.
- The color scheme and style of the advertising were harmoniously coordinated with the building architecture and façade design.
The jury would have found the advertising in the area of the usual advertising space above the shop window or on the canopy to be even more attractive.
2nd prize
The decoration store "4 Zimmer & Garten" won over the jury of the Offenbach advertising system competition 2024:
- In combination with the shop window design, the advertising conveys in an inviting and concise way what the store offers.
- Two advertising elements were used in accordance with the advertising system regulations,
- positioned above and to the side of the shop window, i.e. clearly aligned with it.
- The size of the lettering is in relation to the façade and takes into account the limits set out in the advertising regulations.
- The color scheme of the advertising was harmoniously coordinated with the façade.
- The use of spotlights for indirect lighting is effective and discreetly designed in keeping with the façade.
The jury would have found the use of individual letters for the name of the store even more harmonious. These would not contrast with the geometry of the angular advertising sign.
Commendations
Churros Club
The submission of the "Churros Club" convinced the jury of the Offenbach advertising system competition 2024 with the following points:
- The combination of advertising system and shop window design clearly and concisely conveys the restaurant's offer and thus meets the requirements for clear advertising that is limited to the essentials.
- The bold, bright color scheme was particularly praised, as it is fresh and eye-catching, yet still in harmony with the façade design.
- The illuminated advertising as permanent lighting was designed in an appealing color tone and complies with the regulations for illuminated advertising systems.
Unfortunately, the number of advertising structures exceeds the maximum number of two advertising structures defined in the design statutes. In particular, the jury considers the sticker on the door front to be dispensable, as it does not achieve any additional effect on the advertising impact.
Café Ziel
The submission of the restaurant "Café Ziel" at Berliner Straße 76 was positively evaluated by the jury of the Offenbach Advertising Space Competition 2024 under the following aspects:
- As no advertising space is predefined structurally, stickers are appropriate here as advertising elements. These are placed in a band above the entrance doors, i.e. in the usual location of advertising spaces, and are pleasantly restrained in their design.
- The size of the lettering was chosen moderately and is in good proportion to the façade architecture. The color scheme, material and font style blend harmoniously into the architecture of the building.
- The jury also praised the well coordinated interplay of advertising and special use (outdoor seating).
However, the total number of stickers is inappropriate. The jury suggests concentrating these on the entrance area (the "advertising band" consisting of three window panels above the door and a shop window sticker in the first floor zone) and thus reducing them to the total of two permissible elements.
Laier coffee roastery
The "Kaffeerösterei Laier" submission particularly impressed the jury of the Offenbach 2024 advertising system competition with the following aspects:
- The combination of advertising installations and shop window design conveys the store's offer in a concise and inviting way.
The filigree, free-standing letters on the canopy advertise in an unconventional and creative way, have a high recognition value and are characterized by a clear, aesthetic appearance. They create an attractive advertising effect, especially in the dark. - The color scheme and style of the advertising system are carefully coordinated with the architecture and façade design of the building.
Unfortunately, the number of shop window stickers here also exceeds the permissible limit. The jury recommends that the attractive shop window decoration with views into the store should be seen as the most important advertising element and that one of the two shop windows should be left uncovered.
Bookstore on the market (BAM)
The advertising systems of the bookstore "BAM" were rated as exemplary by the jury of the Offenbach advertising system competition 2024 due to the following aspects:
- The design of the advertising is characterized by a clear design language appropriate to the building architecture and a harmonious integration into the façade.
- The simple advertising box was cleverly wrapped around the corner of the building, making playful use of the corner situation.
- The three-dimensional letters in the advertising box give the advertising a modern effect. In addition, the choice of words is a creative way of communicating the store's offerings.
The number of shop window stickers was criticized as inappropriate: The attractive shop window design itself acts as advertising and does not need the stickers, especially in the given number. They should be removed, possibly with the exception of one that complements the advertising box in the entrance area.
