The vhs informs: Story café starts in the Mathildenviertel
02.04.2026
From April, stories can be discovered together. The Offenbach Basic Education Center is holding a popular event in new surroundings. From April 14, the "Story Café" will take place every second Tuesday in the Mathildenviertel district office. The service was previously based in the children's library - now it is opening its doors even closer to the everyday lives of many families.
The story café is aimed in particular at parents who find reading and writing difficult - i.e. adults with low literacy levels. At the same time, all families who want to make reading easier and more enjoyable in their everyday lives are expressly welcome.
The focus is on enjoying stories together: Parents and children immerse themselves in children's books together, read or listen, laugh and discover new things. The offer is supplemented by creative and playful activities such as themed games, inventing your own stories, practising rhymes or painting.
"It's not about perfection, but about spending time together with stories," says Cat* Patiño Lang, project manager of the basic education center. Neighborhood manager Julia Wahl is looking forward to establishing the offer in the Mathildenviertel district office: "We want to offer spaces in which reading can be experienced without pressure - as something beautiful and unifying."
The Offenbach Basic Education Center helps people to improve basic skills such as reading, writing and arithmetic. Many adults have difficulties with reading and writing - often in secret. This makes low-threshold, everyday activities such as the story café all the more important.
The district office is a central meeting point in the neighborhood. It offers space for encounters, advice and community activities - making it an ideal location for the event.
The Story Café will take place every second Tuesday from April 14 in the Mathildenviertel district office at Krafftstraße 29.
All dates until the summer vacation:
April: 14.04., 28.04.2026
May: 12.05., 26.05.2026
June: 09.06.2026, 23.06.
Anyone interested is welcome to come along and immerse themselves in the world of stories together.
Neighborhood management is a service provided by the City of Offenbach for residents of the four districts of Lauterborn, Mathildenviertel, Nordend and Südliche Innenstadt / Senefelderquartier.
