Around 15,000 people live in Offenbach's densely populated Nordend district. The Goethedreieck is being created there as a small green oasis. During a project week, pupils from the Schiller School worked together with the Nordend district management to make temporary use of this open space. Using objects such as pallets and car tires, the young people built creative and functional furniture that now provides an improved quality of stay on the Goethedreieck.
"The pupils were very enthusiastic about beautifying their neighborhood," says Jana Wurm, a teacher at the Schiller School. The furniture was designed and built by the pupils with a great deal of commitment and creativity. This initiative shows how committed young people are to their immediate surroundings and how actively they want to contribute to beautifying and improving their quality of life.
The Nordend district management has set up the furniture on the Goethedreieck. This temporary use is part of a larger development plan for the entire open space of the Goethering, which is being implemented as part of the urban development program "Social Cohesion Offenbach Nordend".
Thanks to the joint commitment of pupils, teachers and the Nordend district management, the Goethedreieck will become a new meeting point in the district and a place where residents of all ages can come together and relax. This initiative not only promotes a sense of community, but also encourages residents to actively participate in shaping their living environment.
"We are always delighted when people get involved in their neighborhood and the sustainability is particularly high among young people," says neighborhood manager Marcus Schenk, pleased with the success of the project: "After the garden next to the sports hall, this was already the second project together with the Schiller School and we are planning further projects."
Neighborhood management is a service provided by the City of Offenbach for residents of the four districts of Lauterborn, Mathildenviertel, Nordend and Südliche Innenstadt/Senefelderquartier.
