Minipark in Nordend: work is finished

06.08.2024 – The design of the mini park in Ludwigstrasse by the Nordend district management team has been completed. Together with citizens, the designer Janina Albrecht, who was commissioned to realize the project, created a small oasis in the high-density district. After the final work in July, there was recently a closing party with all those involved.

Designer Janina Albrecht created the seating and raised beds.

From the numerous ideas, wishes, questions, concerns and impressions that have been collected since spring 2022 in various participation formats both online and on site, HfG designer Janina Albrecht created a large number of variants for seating and raised beds on the corner of Ludwigstrasse and Bettinastrasse in Offenbach's Nordend district. These designs were exhibited directly on site as illustrations. They were put up for discussion by the urban community and then realized. The final changes and comments were incorporated into the final designs, which were then submitted to the Office for Planning and Building.

The go-ahead for the construction of the mini park was given in summer 2023. Over a period of three weeks, the ideas were implemented together with residents in intensive workshops and construction and planting activities. The first seating furniture and plantings were created in the process.

In the summer of 2024, the "Minipark Ludwigstraße" was finally finalized: On Friday, July 12, after three weeks of construction, drilling, hammering and planting took place for the last time for the time being and the successful result was celebrated together with the committed citizens over drinks and pizza.

"Traffic turnaround and quality of life mean manual work. This project could be the first step towards a traffic-calmed street and the demands on street corners are already increasing," explains designer Janina Albrecht. "Quality of stay is a big issue for Nordend," adds neighborhood manager Marcus Schenk and explains: "Nordend is a very densely populated district, but there is hardly any space for people in the neighborhood to meet or relax in the open air."

The project was financed by a prize from the "Genau" environmental lottery and funds from the "Sozialer Zusammenhalt Offenbach Nordend" urban development program. The project now has the potential to develop further. Even after completion, the "Minipark Ludwigstraße" will remain a lively project. Further construction and planting activities are planned for 2025 in order to continuously improve the area and adapt it to the needs of local residents. The area will be managed by the Nordend district office.
