Disposal fund enables school garden for Schiller School
21.02.2023
The Schiller School in Goethestrasse recently opened its own school garden. It was created by pupils under the direction of their teacher Marc Schultz. The City of Offenbach's Disposal Fund for Nordend helped with the implementation of this learning project as part of the "Social Cohesion" urban development program.
"The meadow was only used by dog owners as a place to defecate," says Marc Schultz, describing the situation on the green space in front of the gymnasium, which is why he and his "Grün-AG" group developed ideas for landscaping the area with trees, plants and insects. The pupils were enthusiastic about the work, even when the drought last summer made it difficult and an excavator had to be called in to help. The ground was prepared and planted with flowers and trees. The result is now impressive.
"It's great to see how city districts can literally blossom thanks to personal initiative and with the right support," says a delighted Martin Wilhelm, city councillor and head of social affairs. "As a city, we are appealing to citizens to make extensive use of the resources provided by the Disposal Fund!" Citizens can apply for funding of up to 2,500 euros for a project in the Nordend from the "Social Cohesion" urban development program.
Disposal funds are available for the Nordend and Südliche Innenstadt/Senefelderquartier areas. If you would like to find out more about the fund or the "Social Cohesion" funding program, please contact the district offices in the two funding areas directly or the local district managers Marcus Schenk and Michael Englert.
