Redesigning Schillerplatz
The city of Offenbach would like to upgrade Schillerplatz as a neighborhood square. It should become a place where people can meet and feel comfortable. To achieve this, the ideas and wishes of local residents are needed.
Public participation in the upgrading of Schillerplatz
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, there was a public participation event on Schillerplatz. Until November 19, 2024, citizens were also able to submit suggestions or write online about what they like or dislike about Schillerplatz.
Results of the on-site participation:
- Water topic: drinking fountains are prioritized,
- green areas should be preserved and expanded if necessary,
- Clear separation of bicycle and pedestrian traffic,
- bicycle access routes were identified as critical points,
- Maintaining public order,
- regular checks,
- regular use of the square,
- Open space for different uses.

What has already happened?
The city of Offenbach already changed the traffic routing in 2022 so that vehicles can no longer drive around Schillerplatz. Vehicles can drive past Schillerplatz via Geleitsstraße or Luisenstraße.
The inner surface of the square and the lanes have been demarcated by brightly painted flower boxes and plant beds, and seating under the trees invites people to linger.
Schedule (as of January 2026):
The continuation of planning is planned for 2026.
The following planning steps are necessary:
- Preliminary planning with development of variants
- Design planning, project decision
- Implementation planning
Urban development program for social cohesion
The aim of upgrading Schillerplatz is to create more space and opportunities in the city center so that people can meet spontaneously in public places. The project is part of the social cohesion urban development program (formerly HEGISS), which has been supporting measures to improve the quality of life and coexistence in the southern city centre and the Senefelder district since 2013.
