Low emission zone in Offenbach since 2015

The 2nd update of the Clean Air Plan for the Rhine-Main conurbation, Offenbach sub-plan (LRP) came into force on 24.11.2014 with its publication in the State Gazette. This also introduced a low emission zone for the entire city of Offenbach from 2015.

Cooperation for special permits

Since 2012, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz have been cooperating in the mutual recognition of exemptions for vehicles that are allowed to drive in the environmental zones of the three municipalities without a green sticker. With the establishment of a low emission zone in Offenbach on January 1, 2015, Offenbach also joined this cooperation, so that in future exemptions issued by the city of Offenbach will also be accepted by Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz and, conversely, Offenbach will accept the exemptions issued by the other three municipalities.

This makes things much easier for applicants: they only have to apply for such a permit in one of the four cities. The original permit must then be clearly visible in the vehicle behind the windshield and is valid in all four cities. There is no need to apply for further exemptions.

The procedure for granting exemptions in Offenbach and the individual criteria are based on the provisions laid down for Frankfurt in 2008 and were agreed in an internal working group of the Environmental Agency with the Offenbach Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Chamber of Crafts, the District Craftsmen's Association and the Painters' Guild as well as the Public Order Office and the Office for Urban Planning, Traffic and Construction Management.

For the cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz, information on the low emission zone and exemptions can be found on the Internet at the following locations:
