Register now for the Children's Miles campaign 2026

Offenbach is once again taking part in the "Kindermeilen" campaign this year. Mayor Sabine Groß and the Office for the Environment and Climate are inviting schools and daycare centers to take part. What is new this time is that the time of the campaign week can now be freely chosen during the period from June 1 to October 2, 2026.

During the Europe-wide Children's Footprints campaign, "Die Grünen" will be collected for one week to send a clear signal to climate politicians worldwide.

The effects of climate change are becoming ever clearer. The transport sector contributes significantly to climate change with its CO2 emissions. The warmer season offers the opportunity to question old habits and look at our own mobility - how can it be made more sustainable and environmentally friendly?

In the Children's Mile campaign, children consider when they can walk, when the bike or scooter is a good option and in which situations it may not be possible to do without the car. The way to school is an important place for developing independence: children who are always driven often have a harder time learning to navigate traffic independently. In addition, contacts, friendships and important everyday experiences are made on the way to school on foot or by bike.

"With every 'Green Mile', children in Offenbach show that climate-friendly mobility starts in everyday life at nurseries and schools. In 2025, 13 Offenbach schools and daycare centers and almost 3,000 children took part in the campaign and together walked 24,469 'Green Footprints'. 'Green Footprints' are awarded for every environmentally friendly journey made on foot, by bike and scooter or by public transport," explains Mayor Sabine Groß.

All Green Footprints collected in Offenbach this year will be sent on a trip to the 2026 UN Climate Change Conference in Turkey together with the Wish Feet.

All childcare facilities and school classes up to and including sixth grade, as well as leisure facilities and sports clubs, can take part. The order and costs of the materials will be covered by the Office for the Environment and Climate as part of the climate protection concept. Each participating child receives their own Children's Footprints collection album for a period of one week. For teachers and educators, there is a detailed accompanying booklet with information and optional, already developed teaching ideas.
