Participation in potential analysis of municipal heat planning starts today

31.03.2026

To be able to enjoy a hot cup of coffee in a cozy environment, you need appropriate heat sources.

The second phase of municipal heat planning has started. From Tuesday, March 31, until Tuesday, May 5, 2026, citizens can view the potential analysis of the municipal heat planning and submit their comments.

The potential analysis provides a comprehensive overview of which alternative heat sources are available in the form of renewable energy or waste heat and how much heat can be saved in buildings.

It serves as an important basis for the development of a sustainable heat supply for the year 2045. The potential analysis uses the data collected to form the basis for decisions. This enables realistic targets to be achieved and implemented.

The aim of municipal heat planning is to show the way for the transition to a climate-friendly heat supply in Offenbach. This involves analyzing how heat can best be generated, distributed and used in a climate-friendly way and where energy can be saved. Citizens and the responsible authorities and public agencies are involved in the process.

Municipal heat planning is divided into various phases:

1. inventory analysis (§ 15 WPG)

2. potential analysis (§ 16 WPG)

3. development of a target scenario (§ 17 WPG)

4. implementation strategy (§ 20 WPG)

"Now that you have already had the opportunity to actively participate in the heat planning process by submitting a statement for the status quo analysis, the draft of the potential analysis will be made available. You now have the opportunity to express your concerns in writing," says Mayor and Climate Officer Sabine Groß.

Public participation will take place from March 31 to May 5, 2026. During the participation period, the draft analysis of potential will be published as a display at the following address: www.offenbach.de/auslage

In addition, the draft analysis of potential can be viewed during the same period during office hours at the town hall, Berliner Straße 100, 63065 Offenbach (Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

Comments may be submitted during the public display period in accordance with Section 7 (1) WPG. Comments should be submitted electronically to umweltamtoffenbachde. If required, comments can also be sent in writing to the Environmental Office of the City of Offenbach, Kaiserstraße 39, 63065 Offenbach am Main.
