City of Offenbach successfully completes City Cycling 2024

18.09.2024

The aim of the Climate Alliance's City Cycling campaign is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. In the period from 7 to 27 June, 844 cyclists in 42 teams in the city of Offenbach got on their bikes for city cycling and together covered 169,344 kilometers, which corresponds to a CO2 avoidance of around 28 tons.

Mayor and head of the climate department Sabine Groß says: "Interest in city cycling remains high and this year even more cyclists and teams took part than last year."

On 7 June, the city cycling event in Offenbach was officially launched in bright sunshine with a kick-off cycle organized jointly by the Office for the Environment and Climate, the ADFC and Radentscheid.

This year's teams once again came from a wide variety of areas such as clubs, schools, families, companies and political parties.

In five prize categories, team prizes of 100 euros were raffled off among the five best-placed teams at a closing event on September 13. As consolation prizes, cloth bags with various small bicycle gifts such as reflectors or tire repair kits were awarded.

The judging took place in five categories

The team from Sana Klinikum Offenbach (13,245 km) was drawn as the winner in the category for the most kilometers overall.

The team "Westernacher Solutions HO in OF" (574 km per person) was the winner for the most kilometers per person.

The team "Die schlappen Schlappen" won the category for the most rides per person with 28 rides.

With the most active cyclists, the winning ticket went to the Rudolf Koch School (29 cyclists).

The Hafenschule was again able to secure the main prize in the category of school teams with the most kilometers, cycling 2,573 km.

Mayor Sabine Groß drew the winning teams in the various categories from the lottery pot.

Marc-Oliver Kutti from the local coordination team at the Office for Environment and Climate thanked the team captains for their commitment and motivation. "We would be delighted if teams participating for the first time remained loyal to city cycling and if the cyclists were to take part again in 2025 when the motto is 'Cycling for a good climate'."

The city of Offenbach will again provide separate information on participation in the 2025 city cycling event.

Background

The City Cycling competition has been organized by Climate Alliance since 2008 and aims to mobilize people to make the switch. The aim is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days. Every kilometer, whether for business or pleasure, counts - especially if the journey would otherwise have been made by car.
