Drinking water protection area in the city of Offenbach am Main

In accordance with Section 51 of the Water Resources Act (WHG), the state government can establish water protection areas by statutory order if it is in the public interest to protect bodies of water from adverse effects in the interests of the current or future public water supply, to recharge the groundwater or to prevent the harmful runoff of precipitation water and the washing away and entry of soil components, fertilizers or pesticides into bodies of water.

In November 1985, the ordinance for the protection of drinking water production facilities in the town of Mühlheim am Main was issued. The classification of the drinking water protection area also includes parts of the Offenbach city area in the wider protection zone (protection zone IIIA and IIIB). This affects Bieber-Waldhof, parts of Bieber, Bieberer Berg, Offenbach-Ost and Waldheim. Certain activities are not permitted in these areas. Details can be found in the text of the ordinance.

The demarcation of the areas can also be called up via the map service of the state of Hesse:

The drinking water protection areas can be displayed by searching for the city of Offenbach or an exact address and selecting "Water protection areas" on the side under Topics.
