New e-cargo bike rental station in the Mathildenviertel district office
12.05.2025 – The City of Offenbach's Office for the Environment and Climate has been providing e-cargo bikes for hire for four years. The service is provided in cooperation with the Rhine-Main regional group of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) and is supported by Offenbach retailers. The e-cargo bikes can be borrowed by citizens free of charge. The cargo bike rental system is extremely popular and is almost 90 percent full. In order to meet the high demand and spread the offer across the entire city, there is now another station in the Mathildenviertel district office.
Neighborhood managers Julia Wahl and Dragana Reichert are delighted to have the e-cargo bike in their district office and also see the rental as an opportunity to get in touch with even more people in the neighborhood and inform them about their work.
Mayor and Head of the Environment Department Sabine Groß also sees that the cargo bike is being used a lot at the new location: "We were only able to win over the Senefelderquartier district office as a station a few months ago and the cargo bike was very popular from day one. The location of the station in a densely populated inner-city residential area is ideal. The service enables many people to transport heavy loads without emitting particulate matter, exhaust fumes and CO2. As a city, we need to promote this and we expect to record the 3,000th rental this year."
Jochen Teichmann from the VCD is also delighted with the new station: "It's great to see how the project has developed. In addition to the city's e-cargo bikes, the Radraum has now also been offering an e-cargo bike for hire for a few weeks. We have now doubled the original four stations from the start of the project in 2021!"
How does borrowing work?
After prior registration and booking via the platform www.main-lastenrad.de (opens in a new tab), citizens can pick up and return the e-cargo bike during opening hours. The opening hours of the Mathildenviertel district office at Krafftstraße 29 are Monday and Tuesday from 9 am to 2 pm, Wednesday from 11 am to 6 pm, Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm and Friday from 9 am to 1 pm, telephone number 069 85093623.
Seven more e-cargo bikes can be borrowed from Edeka in Goethequartier, Edeka Center Stenger on Mühlheimer Straße, Bike Box Bieber, Ringcenter, Fahrradladen Artefakt, the Senefelderquartier district office and Radraum.
