Mayor Sabine Groß at the presentation of the results of the regional commercial transport strategy
08.09.2023
Together with more than 50 representatives from municipal and district administrations, Mayor and Head of the Climate Department Sabine Groß took part in an event organized by the FrankfurtRhineMain Regional Association. Part of this event was a panel discussion in which the results of the strategy were discussed. The panel included Dr. Langenbach-Rohrbach from the Hessian Ministry of Transport, Rouven Kötter from the regional association, Matthias Walther, district councillor for the Wetterau district, and Sabine Groß. Groß actively supported the process of creating the strategy. The growing volume of commercial traffic in the region is to be managed in a sustainable and climate-conscious manner. "I think it is very important that we work together at an inter-municipal level and develop solutions for managing the growing volume of traffic," emphasizes Mayor Groß. "Various reasons, such as ordering goods online, increased construction activity or the increased transportation of goods to production sites, are leading to a further increase in commercial traffic. The increasing noise and rising pollutant emissions caused by commercial traffic are particularly noticeable in urban areas and are intensifying the competition for public space. The commercial transport strategy, which addresses these challenges for the Rhine-Main region, is an important first step. I would like to thank the regional association for taking the initiative and continuing to support this project," added the mayor, welcoming the measures that have been developed for sustainable commercial transport.
The strategy identifies the following areas for action:
1. commercial transport by rail
1. consideration of freight transport by rail
2. securing and expanding the infrastructure for rail freight transport
2. road-based commercial transport
1. maintenance and safeguarding of road infrastructure: roadworks management across all public authorities
2. expansion of traffic and parking space management
3. strengthening cycle logistics
3. multimodally connected areas for freight transport
1. evaluation and identification of multimodally connected locations
2. inter-municipal space management and marketing of multimodal locations
4. intermodal commercial transport in the municipalities
5. charging infrastructure and filling station network for low-emission fuels and drives
6. specialists
7. dialog and networking for the implementation of the commercial transport strategy
